Picasso IV flicker fixer doesn't work. Please help !!
« on: January 04, 2004, 08:36:25 PM »
The problem is a Picasso IV card that I sold on Ebay to a very friendly belgian guy. The card worked fine at my place but a few minutes ago I got a mail with a problem that I don't know how to handle because I have never heard of. Therefor I ask for help.
The picture that the card gives is blue, mixed up and unusable. The card itself is placed solid in its slot.
Does this sound familiar to anybody  :-?

What Zorro system is it fitted to?

I had similar problems with my PIV attached to an A1200/Z4 busboard. It turned out to be the power connectors to the Z4 card. The P8/P9 sockets in the Elbox/PowerTower tend to fatigue very easily.

That's all I can say about it.

Cheers,

JaX

He should try to go into the picasso boot screen, I think by pressing shift at a soft reset. Then change to default value and start again.

I had a similar problem as the flickerfixer wasn't in the range the monitor could handle.

Maybe the flash of the PIV got toasted somehow. In that case have the Installdisk that came with the Picasso in DF0 on power up, it will then write a new flash to the PIV automatically.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

Hi,

I'm the guy who encounters the Flicker-Fixer problem : thank you for your answers.

Actually JaX seems right : I plugged the Picasso into the other video slot and the Flicker-Fixer is working again, so the first video slot seems out of order.

Did anyone having an A4000T encounter this problem, or know how to avoid it ?

A possible reason is that I am not able to secure the card with a screw because the case only permits it with the other Zorro slots, allowing the graphic card, which is horizontal, to slightly bend when the monitor cable is plugged or removed.

Thanks.

Well unless you are using a toaster then you do not need the second video slot for anything.  Sounds like you have it all in order.

I use a Picasso IV in my Amiga Technologies A4000T here with no problems.  It's in the top most slot.

Maybe not a video slot problem as the two slots are in parallel.  Perhaps try cleaning the edge connector on the card, which is kind of what you did by removing it and inserting it again.
It could possibly be some weird conflict with other cards?
I know a P IV, Prelude and Ariadne 1 don't work together in an A3000D.  Swapped the Ariadne 1 for a 2 and it's going sweet now.

Didn't know about the PicassoIV setup screen, I'll try it next time I reboot my system.  Don't recall reading about it anywhere.

There is also a Toccata sound card in my Amiga, but I did not change anything between the last succesful use of the Picasso in the first video slot and the appearance of the troubles, which let me think of a hardware fault rather than a matter of cleaning, and actually the video slots seem clean.  But I did not try to insert the card in the first slot again.

To Castellen : do you secure the Picasso with a screw or any other means, on top of the metal front, or not ?

Thanks everybody.
