I guess the free market has decided that the real value of these machines isn't quite what they go for.

Like I said, i wasn't sure if it was a bad photo (and I haven't been interested enough to go looking at their website) but to me the whole keyboard looks nothing like a C64 and the colour looks off.

I think the colors are the same, but the C64x keyboard is flat while the C64 keyboard was stepped.

That's the major difference and I think that's why the picture looked so strange. Seems like a big thing to miss if you are going to go to all that effort to clone the original.

Good idea. From what I've heard we could just switch it on a wait until it self-immolates!

Wait?? what?  .. are the reviews of the "new" C64 not too good?  I have not followed since watching the unboxing videos on youtube..

a lot of people have complained on their website about overheating, and one person had his cd drive die on him. Other minor issues too.

ah so not too bad then.  Some of these things could be related to QC and or cheap components.  Doesn't seem like anything major or consistent.  The big question.. Is
Commodore USA honoring/fixing/replacing faulty units or components?

It's not cheap components (at least not with the overheating,) it's poor design. The original release didn't even have the fan pointed anywhere near the board, so it was basically just relying on residual induction from airflow through a completely empty part of the case to move hot air away from the heatsink. I gather they've added another fan, but they also kicked it up to a freakin' i7, as if the Atom wasn't running hot enough...

Just make sure they only get into the hands of hundreds of thousands students and protesters using twitter.  If a few hundred are bought by a scientific organization  expect to be asked tough questions about how and why you shipped computers to the axis of evil.

yeah.. I shouldn't have used the word "cheap"  I just meant that it could just be inconsistencies in quality of some of the parts they are using, not to the fault of
Commodore per say.  I mean Apple SuperDrives fail too, just saying.  But the
real key is Commodore USA taking care of these issues?  Not just in future builds
but also for the people who have purchased these C64's?
Thats what I would care about if I bought one.  Just look at when Apple first release the Intel laptops, they had a multitude of issues, but I think Apple took care of them for the most part.

Oh, you mean the middle class drug users in Northern Tehran?  They won't be able to afford our products as they spend all their money on opium and crack.

We are an Iranian company, not American, so shipping products to ourselves makes sense.

That should make things interesting.  My laptop is an i7 and when I'm playing WoW you can hear the fans kick in and you get blasts of hot air out of the vents you can cook with.  However the case itself remains cool.  Obviously HP had a good design team.

If you are really based in the UK as your location suggests, then you must comply with UKHMT sanctions legislation.

if you think the C64x or AmigaOne X1000 might be over priced look at Commodores plans for the Amiga

http://www.commodore-amiga.org/forum/27-commodore-usa/8551-phone-call-with-barry?lang=en#8569

"here's a typical config for a mid priced new Amiga

1-Case (IMHO, there is nothing better) hope you agree           $1000
1-RVD3X2-FHPX4-960G  (for OS + Apps)                              $3000 +
2-NVIDIA Quadro 6000                                                      $7000 +

We are already over $11K, and we haven't even talked about memory, hdd storage, cooling, cpu's, motherboards etc.

The entry level will be about $2500-5000" from Barry!

 ok they are going for the industry market but still $1000 for just the case!
