Commodore vs. Cad Track? Can someone explain?
« on: September 18, 2011, 07:13:03 AM »
I read in On The Edge (and several other places) that a  A federal judge ordered an injunction against Commodore preventing them from importing anything into the United States over failing to pay for the use of Cad Track XOR Cursor patent. And that this led to a cash crunch that directly caused the 1994 bankruptcy.

I have always thought that was insane and never understood it - because the Amiga pointer uses a hardware sprite. I never seen it explained exactly what feature of Amiga OS uses this crappy (but efficient) way of displaying a pointer. I always figured it had to be the some aspect of the Blitter.

So I decided to give workbench inspection this time looking for XOR technology.

Does anyone know? Did I find it? Is it the outline when you drag/resize a window? You can see from how the line changes colors depending on underling content that it probably is using XOR logic.
