a2000 power supply change and toaster no longer works properly
« on: September 14, 2011, 04:18:56 AM »
I am guessing at this so please correct me if my thought is inaccurate.  I recently changed my stock a2000 power supply for a new one.  I have recently tried my video toaster 2000 and it no longer starts up properly and am getting toaster not responding errors.  I tried calibrating using the main timing screw on the toaster and still cannot get it work.  My thought is that I am not getting a proper timing signal since I am using the ATX power supply and have set jumper 300 to the alternative position for onboard timing.  I have read that the onboard tick is not precise as the line tick and may not be perfect enough for genlocks.  Unfortunately I no longer have the stock power supply that supplies the tick signal to test this theory to see if the toaster starts working again.  I was wondering if someone has a schematic for a independant tick signal generator that will work on the 115 AC 60 hz line?  I found the tickit archive on aminet and this circuit looks to be designed for use with only 220 50hz.  I am guessing that if I get an accurate tick signal, this should resolve my toaster startup problem.  Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

FYI - I have two a2000 power supplies that I'm not using.  :)  If you decide you need one, let me know.

I think you have lost TICK and that is the trouble. The 3000 can derive this signal from the video iirc with a jumper change... i can't recall if the 2000 can,but you may check the schematics on the 3000 board jumper and see if it can be duplicated on the 2000?

Thanks for the information on the schematic for the tick generator.  The information in the mix and tick schematic is missing a few vital details.  Would you happen to have the technical details for the resistors (wattage, tolerances) and capacitors for this circuit?  Are ceramic disc capacitors are all thats needed?  You wouldn't by chance have any close up photos of the tick board in your 2000 showing both sides?  :)

Unfortunately, I don't have that A2000 anymore. can't remember tolerances. think they are probably just standard 1/4 watt.. . nothing fancy.

After changing out the power supply for a stock A2000 one, the video toaster started working again.  Looks like it was timing problem after all.  Thanks ESC for your help! :)
