There are still people around here in Washington that remember the Amiga and have fond memories. Just yesterday I was at a local PC shop getting some parts for my  girlfriends moms PC, and the shop owner and I got to talking about Amigas. Some of the numbers listed above though I would think are a bit generous, but then those towards the bottom of the list are likely to be more realistic.

Tell me how that worked and I'll be filthy rich real soon  :-D
Hint : The number of all Amigas ever produced is somewhere between
3 and 7 million (depending on the lack of rational of whom you ask).

But who really cares ?

People within the community prepared to shell out on Amiga-related HW:
<5000

People within the community prepared to shell out on Amiga-related SW:
<1000

People remembering the Amiga as something more than a game-console
with keys, but not the f***-ups of the past 10 years (or prepared to forget them):
<100000

People among the above prepared to shell out >$1000 for running what is
(and will be for quite some time ) a pure hobby OS without (enough) SW:
<2000

Weren't there like 3 million Amiga users in Germany at the time the Amiga was at its peak ?

(Edit; the numbers 3 and 7 million were more like 7 million sold in the biggest Amiga using countries, the UK and Germany, where 7 million was the combined total of he UK and German Users..)

IIRC there were at least 1.000.000 amigas sold in Greece when Amiga was at its peak!

Yes I heard that too, and it since Germany was the biggest market by far,
It would fit in with an overall sale of ~5 million.

@restore
The C=64 was and is the best selling computer-model with around 17 million.
Amiga never ever came close to that (due to the fact that there were allready
"standard-PCs" available at reasonable price when the A500 became affordable).

@Animagic
Looking at the size of Greece, the average income of it's population, and how
uncommon computer were in the late 80s/early 90s compared today (just like
in the rest of the world), I can only doubt that...

A few numbers:
The biggest annual production was in 1991 with around 2 million A500s,
but that was only possible with a reduced price, better marketing and the fact that
this was the year when getting "free" games for the miggy turned eaasier as
getting those for C=64.

It was also the year when C=-Germany sold over 1 million, but it is also
well-known that C=-Germany were undercutting other local C='s in an attempt
to look even bigger than they were.

There was 10 Millions Amiga sold between 1985 and 1995 in Europe, add the rest of the world to this and you will end with about 18-20 Millions. :-)

I agree with you Kronos, and the numbers I've seen reported in the UK Amiga press for worldwide sales match your 7 million or so.

20 million Amigas? Wishful thinking, I'm afraid.  Not surprisingly, numbers of Amiga users have always been inflated beyond reality, even more so recently as certain companies try to convince the public they have a healthy market for their products.

What??? I come from Greece too, but I don't remember 1 out of 10 people owning an Amiga.... I wanted to sell my CPC and buy an A500 but she was a bit expensive until '92. I got mine (2nd hand) in '93 and I was one of the few (>45) people in my hometown (Veroia) owning one. One million machines in a country of ten million is a bit of a high estimate, isn't it? Are you sure you didn't mean 100.000?

@Kronos and @Van_M

Guys, I live in Greece and I happen to know that most amiga owners didnt just have 1 amiga but at least 2 or 3 amigas.

I have 8 (5x A2000 3xA1200)!!!!

Even in Rodos Island I NEVER met a person that havent heard of the Amiga computer. I personally NEVER met anybody that DID NOT had an Amiga!!!

Honestly!

Oh, and Veroia doesn't have the same income/person as full of tourists cities like Rodos or Athens  :-D
