More money then sense?
« on: September 13, 2011, 01:14:41 AM »
I just picked this up:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180723532832

I didn't really need it but always wanted one.  I hope the accellerator is worth the extra $$ over buying one refurb from amikit.

For a nice condition machine, with all the stuff included, I don't think its bad at all.

I guess if you compare to buying a new pc its expensive for what you get but to hell with that.

Aren't there heat issues with 040s in the wedge case or is that exaggerated?

Yeah, compared to some of the prices I've seen people pay for Amiga gear, that's almost sane.
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/MT-32/D-10, Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha DX7/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini, Ensoniq Mirage/SQ-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-600, Hohner String Performer

Post it on eBay.  I bet you'll have several people who will bid on it.

I was planning on trying to find a $450 price range 4000 but opted for this because of the condition. He sent me pics that pushed me over. I just uploaded em:

Top: files.me.com/m.bob/04oizh
Drive: files.me.com/m.bob/3nmz7l
Rear: files.me.com/m.bob/i75pq1
Falcon: files.me.com/m.bob/gxvg2d
An Amikit refurb speced around $300ish plus shipping to me so on the surface I paid $100 for the accelerator if all checks out. At least that was my rationalization.

The accelerator is totally worth it :) I'm stuck in 030 land :)

Hope you have a little more money. This part is untrue:

"Also comes with Commodor vga adapter so you can plug in any LCD monitor (which you can see here)"

Most monitors won't do 15Khz which rules out most games.

You also may want to get a clockport Subway USB. That is the best thing I bought for my A1200.

Welcome to the A1200!

Oh, its a real Commodore too... nice...

I think the commodore ones don't have the video bugs in multiscan mode like mine that was NOS.

Yeah I'm crossing my fingers on one of my 4 LCDs works.  My first add-on I'm thinking is a PCMCIA network card at amikit. I think it's around $36. Would tracking down a subway USB make more sense?  Oh and depending on the hard drive life one of those IDE to CF adaptors.

I have the wireless network card from amigakit and it really has worked well for me with miamiDX.

I have never tried the networking over USB, but I don't believe there are any wireless adapters. Just wired.

Subway is good, but it still runs off a port designed for a clock. So I think for best results you probably want both. I'm sure PCMCIA is less CPU overhead. Subway does bog down the system.  IDE to CF is nice too :)

I went with a SSD but its actually slower than CF so I should switch back.

That ain't too bad of a score considering condition and installed '040.

Recently let an A1200/Apollo'040/32mg/scsi header go for a price comparable to that amount.

I have wireless internet on my 1200. It was a royal bitch to set up, but that may just be my incompetence :)

Its fun to have though. CF adapter is great too, both IDE and PCMCIA
