« on: September 11, 2011, 02:04:29 AM »
Hi,
What are the minimum system requirements  for an Amiga 1200 running games via Whload and Igame?

I have a standard A1200 Escom, whith a CF Card 4GB on port IDE, what more upgrades i have to do?
Thanks.

Technically, nothing..
That can run a lot of the 1 and 2 floppy OCS games...

I did that for a bit...

All you really need to be able to run the rest of them is more RAM.

You can do that with a PCMCIA RAM card, although that actually slows down the 1200 a bit.  I know it works tho, as I did that for a bit before I got my internal RAM, and I didn't notice the slowdown at the time.  (I only put the PCMCIA RAM card in to play games, I didn't leave it in for general stuff.)

However, better is an internal RAM card.  4M is plenty (in fact, more than 4M can cause problems with PCMCIA cards if you plan on doing that).

EVEN better is an accelerator with RAM.  ;-)

To make a decent WHDLOAD machine I'd go for an ACA 030 with 64MB RAM (CPU speed is not really important).

You can run a lot of WHDLOAD games with just a 4MB FASTRAM card but for all round WHDLOAD pleasure, I'd recommend the ACA which is a great little card.
Life begins at 100 MIPS!

Nice Ports on AmiNet!

You at least need some fast ram.  I'd recommend getting in contact with Amigakit to find out about the ACA 1230/28 which they are expecting to have in stock soon.  It's not much  more expensive than a basic 4MB ram card on the second hand market and will offer improved speed more demanding games such as flight sims and strategy games.

I wrote a tutorial about setting up WHDLOAD and IGame.

http://www.amigascene.nl/modules/artikelen/docs/igame-AMO-v1_2.pdf

It's even possible to use with the standard 2 MB of RAM, but it's very slow loading the games.

You need to have 4MB fast ram to run it smoothly. The processor speed isn't important. A 68000 CPU will do, but you can't quit all games with Quitkey.

Most WHDLOAD Games will work on a Amiga 1200 with 4 MB Fastram.

I will definitely have to get more fast memory for my A1200 ...
I followed your tutorial and now when I run Igames gives me the following error message:

"Program Failed (error # 8000000B).
Wait for disk activity to finish "

What could I have done wrong?

Did you downloaded this from Guifx_render_nofpu.lha the IGame site?

You need this files to prevent the  8000000B Guru.

This was written on page 4.

Now IGame it´s working... :)

Pity is that the various games I've ever tried any of them run ...  because of lack of memory ...
The messages are:
- "Can't allocate ShadowMem";
- Dos.Error # 205 (object not found) on reading "Disk 1"

Anyone know of any game that runs for only 2 MB of memory?
