Searching for Amiga bargain in Oz!
« on: September 05, 2011, 12:43:35 PM »
Hi peeps,

I sold my Amiga gear quite a while ago but recently decided I want to buy another Amiga 600HD or maybe a 1200HD for game development. Been looking at ebay (too expensive), Gumtree, etc. but no joy. Any clues where I could pick up a bargain?

Cheers,

The New Guy

P.S. I'm a fussy buyer. Nicotine stained keyboards are not my thing.
Thermaltake Matrix
(Soon to be Thermaltake Chaser Mk-1 - yet to install)
Gigabyte P55A-UD3R
Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz
Geil Black Dragon DDR3 4GB Kit
GeForce GT 320 1024MB

Current Project: Minecraft Server.

Soon: Amiga 600HD.
Lead me to the cliff top, for I am a Lemming!

Unfortunately decent, good value amiga gear is hard to get ahold of in Aus. It took me a year or more to find something I was happy with at a decent price. Thankfully it only took me a few months afterwards to find an accelerator I was happy with (I probably spent a little more than Id have liked, but its easier to justify a purchase when you can use it straight away (vs. buying add-ons without an amiga)).

All you can really do is keep looking at the places youve tried. Perhaps amibay as well. All options require a little luck and persistance, but that just makes a person appreciate what they get ahold of even more :)

Alternatively you could get a minimig if that suits your needs. Another option for now might be something like Winuae, which is somewhat cheaper. While it's an impressive piece of software these days it's not for me, but might tide you over until you find that bargain youre hunting for.

Welcome aboard, and good hunting :)
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

It depends on how much you are willing to spend. If you go to Amiga Kit you can get good condition Amiga 1200's for about 125 pounds.

It should at least satisfy your fussyness in regards to the condition of the computer.

Unless you guys know of anywhere that sells new keyboards and/or cases for A600. (Spotted some for A1200 but not A600.)

Cheers

Hey mate,
you may already be aware of this but overclockers.com.au have pretty active trading forums. Mainly for PC but I've seen a lot of older stuff such as old consoles, arcade machines, and Amiga stuff get bought and sold from time to time. If you throw up a 'wanted to buy' thread asking for Amiga stuff you'll probably get a few bites.

Unfortunately there are minimum time and post limits before you can use the trading forums... I think you gotta wait 3 months after signing up. Pain in the arse but its worth signing up just so you can use the trading forums in the future.

I take it you've already tried amibay.com?
