ACube Secret Revealed!

So what it all was about, was a bundle for their Sam460 board, containing a pre-selected case, mouse, HDD/DVD with SATA controller card, RAM, logotype stickers and a T-shirt, for EUR €1,062 (+EUR €45 for a graphics card, to make it usable ~ EUR €1,100)?

OK...

Well if someone buys that they're crazy. All that cash and the video card is optional, not only that it's an outdated card?

Far better things to spend money on i.e. fpga arcade/minimig/natami.

I love the Amiga, but this isn't the right way to do it.

All I'll say is I do hope they don't stop selling the motherboards, and go exclusively down this route.

The Amigakit announcement of the lower prices on Sams seems to make sense in the context.

The case isn't that bad in my book, but what the market needs is better value for money, not large markups on pre-built systems lowering value for money further.

All the same, best of luck.

I don't mind the (high) price. What bothers me is the 2 week wait for such a boring and unneccessary marketing scam.

Bad marketing, people were actually expecting something.  Sad really.

My favorite part:

Quote
If you ever used the old Amiga 500 you will find that the new AmigaOne 500 takes this legacy to a new level: extra speed, modern interfaces (DDR2 memory, USB2, PCI Express, SATA2, Gigabit ethernet), onboard sound, faster graphics, the most up to date Amiga Operating System. These are just a few of the features you will get by purchasing the AmigaOne 500.

LOL. This thing has **** all to do with any of the original Amiga's much less the 500.

These guys just don't get it.

And yeah, that case is ugly as sin. Its like a $30 case.

I would rather drop the cash on a FPGA Arcade or NatAmi.

SAM460 Motherboard prices....

1.15 Ghz CPU + OS4: 705,00 EUR (853.05 EUR including VAT where applicable)

OR

CPU 1 Ghz,512 MB DDR2,AmigaOS4.1 included: EUR 664 (803.44 EUR including VAT where applicable).

Problem is not the case choice.

Case choice aside, I'm more curious about what ACube's use of the AmigaOne name might mean. Consider that A-eon is also using the AmigaOne name, and that many hypothesized that if the X1000 was successful A-eon might follow up with a less expensive AmigaOne X500. It wouldn't make any sense to have an AmigaOne 500 and an AmigaOne X500.

I guess the red team is trying to get the naming conventions on their machines to line up as if it was one company.  Not a bad idea really since nobody can afford to make an entire product line.

It's just kind of sad that the low end "500" is $1200.

I guess it can be called "AmigaOne X600" then? ;) Not that I think it will ever come that far...
