Amiga 600 and airport scanner
« on: July 29, 2011, 05:46:34 PM »
Time has come and I need to flight back home. Anyone (I guess yes) ever carried an amiga through the airport scanners? Does they put any complain, because I am wondering if I should carry the amiga with me or dispatch it. It is a risk to dispatch I know, but I don't want to have any problems. Since it is a very old hardware and has a lot of metal parts, that is.

Any feedback appreciated.

Regards.

I've flown within the US with TriCasters as both carry on or checked, in boxes and bags, but never had an issue or been asked to turn them on.

No problem even with the prototypes which admittedly looked a bit bomb-like with the wires hanging off the boards ;)

I know it's not the same, but they are both odd looking devices.  The 600 is probably less so.

BTW, chances are the guy scanning it will think it's a keyboard and never take a second look.

Most people don't think "computer" when they see them and those that do will probably just ask you about it out of nostalgia.

Thanks for the quick response. It's in an European airport, which I assume in general are less paranoid than US counterparts.

Then I'd say it's probably far more likely that you'd get the nostalgia response since they seemed to have been more popular there.

I think with some common sense you'll have no problems.

I flew with an A600 in hand luggage in the UK before with no problems.

It was a long time ago and probably before 11/9, but nobody raised any eyebrows even although I had the power pack in there and all sorts of cables and wires.

I was a bit worried about all the floppies being ruined by the x rays, but they worked fine afterwards too.

That A600 had been rescued from the bin by my brother and still goes strong all these years later.

I'm waiting for the next public scare tactic...

Terrorists are posing as retro computer geeks and using out dated computers to sneak bombs across the boarder!  Be afraid, very afraid, don't trust your neighbor. If he starts acting strange, report him to your local officials immediately!!!
