Alright, will try on 1200 and eMac.

Thank you!

If you get that far on the A1200, then you merely have to select "scale" from the "operators" menu.
And there are easy ways to improve the results of "scale" too.
I should say, though, that depending on your file format there could still be an issue here, so let us know if the file loads. If not, try to determine the format, and there might be a workaround.
Sadly, the loaders are only going to be "smart" enough to cover the format standards from the time Adpro was last updated.

I use ImageStudio for resizing, remapping, dithering and processing images all the time. Here's how I have it laid out on my A600:

Of course in 24bit on MorphOS it will look nicer than this.

You can download ImageStudio from Aminet, then copy the keyfile to the program directory once you've installed it:

Tanks hot cakes, I'll give a go tonight!

That image looks really good, I suppose I shouldn't count out the 600 for graphical work.

Format won't be an issue. I am starting off with screen shots after all, so I can save the originals into what ever format is needed. Thanks again for all the help...

Definitely don't rule out the A600 for image processing, well if you have a 020-030 anyway. You can run Photoshop on them, afterall: http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=3457

Art Department Pro (copies should be pretty darn cheap these days)

+1

AdPro is very powerful image tool, especially for the day.

Back in the day I used this program professionally.  You could use for scaling,  transcoding we would commonly move between TIFF, Amiga IFF, Targa, and JPG.  Also would use it for color correcting digitized cell animation frames so they would look better on NTSC.

I miss my television production days.... Viva Amiga......

If you're using MorphOS, why on earth you wouldn't use included ShowGirls software? It's just the best and fastest software for these kinds of convertions and editing. Free, already installed and compatible too :). You can select resizing filter (for example Lanczos does good quality) and do batch converts etc.
Daily MorphOS user and Amiga active.

I didn't realize Show Girls did that. I'm just used to thinking of it as a Comic Book Viewer.   :)

Will test and compare results.

BTW, I'm not going for speed, I'm going for image quality and preservation.

I now have all the suggestions made above installed on my MorphOS machine.

The results...

Show Girls steals the show by a long shot!

Not only does it support nearly every format under the sun, it also seems to have the best quality preservation when reducing the size of images.

At first the image becomes blurry as one would expect, but once I run the Sharpen feature on the shrunk image, it almost looks as good as the original.

The only faults I see with Show Girls at the moment is the fact that it does not allow for Palette loading and saving, plus it is not always clear what format I am saving in.

When I hit Save, I can choose the format, and I suppose I just change the extension when saving, but when I choose Save As, I don't get to select the format. Also it does not seem to support saving in BMP, which forces me to return to my Windows machine to change the format so that I can apply the Palette I need for DOOM, and save it again.

Is the author of Show Girls still working on this?

Sorry to break in but.. just before I quit the Amiga scene in 2001 or something like that, I was using an excellent Image/Video Converter program. Unfortunately, I dont remember how it was called.. Ive checked Aminet but found nothing like it. I think it used PPC to speed up things and I remember it had a good looking GUI. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Also, @Cammy, I think you mentioned before that Photoshop 4 was the last 68K Photoshop but I remember when I Google'd around for this information myself, I found a page that said the very first editions of Photoshop 5 ran on 68k processors, too. Can you confirm this? If not, can you tell me where I can find Photoshop 4?

for "automated" image processing I still like ports of commandline tools like imagemagick. a bit bulky for amiga apps, but very powerful.

here's an image i generated back in 2000 on an a1200/030 and vmm (needs ~110mb of ram for the raw 24 bit data)

Quote
It was created on an a1200/030 with 10 meg of ram and 1gig of
virtual memory using the latest version of the great
image manipulation software ImageMagick.

readme: http://aminet.net/package/pix/misc/ExoMontage-L
the image: http://aminet.net/pix/misc/ExoMontage-L.jpg

(warning - 11mb jpg - ~ 2000px x 18000px)

not a sensible thing to do really, but it was a sort of experiment, and the final result is quite nice to look at. i should think the same image could be generated on a modern pc in a few seconds/mins ;-)

I'm not one who would expect that. Quite the opposite.
Scaling up, sure, because it's manufacturing detail that just isn't there in the original. But I thought you were scaling down.

I think you may find that Photoshop 5 was PPC-only, but it was the last version to work with MacOS 7, perhaps that's where the confusion comes from. I don't think linking to Photoshop on here is a good idea, but if you Google search for Macintosh Garden, they have it, and they have thousands of other Mac software titles and games to download. Get Photoshop 4 and the 4.0.1 update and try it out, it runs pretty well on my A1200 and A600.

I am scaling down. I'll try to post some "before and after" examples tomorrow.

Maybe we can have a competition and see who can come up with the best results.

Funny, I was thinking when you started the thread it might be wise to upload one of the source images somewhere and state the final size you needed, just for that purpose.

Anyhow, what I am doing is Taking Screen shots of models from Jedi Outcast inside Windows.

Why don't you do the resizing in Windows as well? Personally I use IrfanView which is a small and fast image viewer that can also be used for manipulating images in various ways. It also includes the Lanczos filter for resizing.
