I win you guys all:

I knew it would go high, but wow! What they hell can you even do with it now??? I let mine go for much less. If you can spend that I dont see why the buyer wouldnt just get a modern AOS4.x machine, top of the lone one at that.

I agree!  Wish I could afford a new X1000... but I just priced it and it's over $3000 US!

This is what frustrates me about the PowerPC / Proprietary path that things went.  It just costs too much to get current.

Someday maybe... perhaps a used AmigaONE or something for me... but I'd prefer the X1000 or newer :)

I think a lot of the costs of PPC can be blamed on Apple/IBM.  If the fruit hadn't dropped PPC, then they'd most likely be a bit more 'commodity' than they are now.  IBM and some embedded systems are really the only ones using the architecture anymore.

As much as I think it'd be cool to own a PPC, my thoughts are this;

With a 68060 (which I now have, though it's at 50mhz and I'd really like to overclock it, but no one has overclocked a Cyberstorm MK I that I know of) you get the old classic feeling of the Amiga on real hardware.  There isn't a whole lot of PPC only software out there unless you run AmigaOS4.x  And Once you go with 4.x or MorphOS or AROS, then you're pretty much in emulation land for 68k software.  In which case I have a big beefy system with Arch Linux, Debian GNU/Linux and Windows 7 on it.  So I could emulate and / or use AROS.  This system costs less than that crazy ass posting of an accelerator.

So while the geek in me thinks "Hell yeah, gimme, I still want a PPC, because I've never owned one!", the realist in me thinks "would it be useful for anything besides saying "I have a PPC bitches!"?

Interesting... the auction appears to have been reset?  No explanation that I could find either.

At a wild guess, I think whoever won it then told his wife who spotted what he was about to pay for it, shot him and then contacted the sell to say that he no longer needed it.  :D

Look under bids .. it says "Retracted: AU $2,500.00" .. wouldn't that be why? :)

No, she shot me and I still had to get online and retract the bid, and then clean the blood off the floor and keyboard.

Wait..that was you who have put 2,500 for the card and you retracted your bid? If so, did you change your mind because of the posting here in the forum saying that with that money you could have bought X1000 over an old and outdated technology like that PPC card?

Nah, you're confusing me with someone else. And I was joking anyway. The rumours of my death were greatly exaggerated.
I saw it when it was at $2k already. Didn't place a bid. I reckon Id pay $900 though. But that would be my limit.

AH! You said you would pay 900? Funny that is how much I paid for an A4000D all together and honestly I would not pay $900 for it. Just because it is a price of an entire computer..no. I would stick with 040. But problem I am facing is AmiBlitz 3 is very much processor intensive and 040 is too slow for this application. So if I am going to do anymore Amiga classic hardware purchase it would be a 060.

Glad Im not the only one who thought that the price was insane.

Seriously people, I know MorphOS isnt "Amiga" but give it a try and buy yourself a $150 G5 tower. Its way more power than any Amiga accelerator ever was and you can do a lot more with it!
