I have been selling a few things in eBay lately, and there is  strange phenomena I just don't understand... why do people get into bidding wars (or bid at all) days before the auction ends?

I can see where there was a definite strategy bidding early on those auction sites like ubid where they would have large quantities of the same item and getting in early means you may get the item at a lower price than others.

I also understand that some people might like to get the first bid in on multiple auctions in the hopes that nobody else will bid on at least one.

I guess I'm glad it happens when I'm the seller, just not the buyer.

I always snipe at the end :)

I always snipe, although when I am not paying enough attention, I frequently miss the end of the auction:).
I have only bid early on 2 auctions, the first I did not read the description fully and ended up paying far more than the item was worth, the second occasion was because I really wanted the item and the early bid may have given my bid precedence if it came to a tie at the end, as it happens I had to snipe at the end and left it too late and lost the item.

I think getting into early bidding wars it can sometimes be to your advantage, I have used the eBay phone app to match some rival bids real time when the price was still relatively low, my theory is some bidders get annoyed by this and just bugger off. :-)

No idea. I either "buy it now" or snipe if the price is still acceptable.

While reading some of these posts and looking at the auctions, this question popped in my head: What's the most insane Amiga auction that's been seen? - What was the item and what was the insane price??

I seriously consider letting my CBM A4000T go. I think that if it sells through eBay you would see an insane auction also.

What if it is not? What if now all Amiga systems are worth minimum $10k? What if my Amiga 1200 is worth $20k? Can you imagine the profit I will be making.

Wishful thinking, but good thinking.
