Wifi on A1200
« on: July 14, 2011, 05:33:25 AM »
I know I've been asking quite a few questions as of late, and I do appreciate all your help. I'm having trouble with getting Wifi working on my A1200. I have a Lucent Orinoco Gold in the PCMCIA slot. Prism2.device is installed, with SetPrism2Defaults in startup-sequence with my SSID and WEP key (128 bit). And I'm using AmiTCP with Genesis, making sure the IP I assign the 1200 is not taken by any other device in the house (I'm giving it 192.168.1.119), along with correct information for the gateway and DNS server (both handled by the router, 192.168.1.1) plus the subnet mask (255.255.255.0). But it seems I'm not connecting. Can't view a webpage, or anything else. As always, any assistance is most appreciated.

- Do you have pccard.library on your LIBS: folder?
- Do you run CardReset, CardPatch on your startup-sequence?
Check these and report back but it would be nice if you could add some pictures/screenshots of your Genesis setup as well.

pccard.library is indeed in LIBS:, but I do not have CardPatch or CardReset in my startup-sequence or user-startup.

Get them from Aminet then and install them on C:
Then you only need the following declaration pretty early at startup-sequence:
Code: [Select]
FailAt 11
C:CardPatch
C:CardReset TICKS 50
FailAt is only needed cause if you start without and PCMCIA card in the slot, it will put an error 10 message from CardReset. You can exclude FailAt and put an >NIL: at the end of the command if that suits you better.

Alright, I'll give that a shot as soon as I feel like opening the case again to transfer files over.

So, I got the files on my 1200, and put the required lines at the start of my startup-sequence. Still, I get nothing. When I first turn it on, the lower of the two lights on the card goes on for a bit, then shuts off, then the one above it flicks on very briefly every now and then. I checked on my router, and it's not even connecting, as it's not showing up in the device list.

NovaCoder: While I am given to the understanding that EasyNet may in fact solve this problem, I am disinclined to purchase something when I'm not certain that the Wifi card or even the PCMCIA port is working.

The only WiFi card that I could get to work is a MA401 wireless PCMCIA card....

You'll get it working mate without spending anymore money...in any case Easynet is just a front end for amitcp so it wont solve your problem.

Firstly I would do what mfilos suggested, 2nd I would check that the IP address your using is in your static range i.e. not an address in your DHCP address range.

If your still having problems I suggest downloading amitcp 3.02b and using the guide that can be found here: http://www.acc.umu.se/~patrikax/amiga/guides/AmiTCP_Install/

This works for me.

One last thing, have you double checked that the prism driver supports your pcmcia card?

The Orinoco Gold should work with the WEP and WPA version of prism2.device.
I have 3 of those cards, and all work beautifully with both versions of prism2.device.

Orinoco golds use the hermes chipset, so check if the hermes firmware from the prism2 archive is in Devs:Firmware.

Also doublecheck if your Wifi settings in your router config are properly set, and check if you entered the correct WEP passphrase.

When the connection is made, the lower led should be permanently lit.

1 have 2 orinoco cards, silver and gold, both of them work nicely with ami TCP and setupping them was suprilcely easy.

I have unencryptedl WLAN, so my amigas connect to it,  without anything in user-startup

You could try that, mean set your WLAN unencrypted for testing? Just for problem solving of course. That way amiga should connect first unencrypted wlan it can found.

Your IP settings seem to be ok, CardPatch and CardReset are essential to use.

What genesis connection window shows? Does it say connected? You can try to ping your router. Commands are in AMITCP/Bin folder, I have copied them to C: so that I can more easily use them

Unencrypted or WEP hardly makes a difference anyway.

True, but with unencrypted it should work without anything special in user-startup

My router also accept connections only from those whos MAC addres is added there. If somebbody want to monitor my traffic he/she doesn't found anything interested, or he must be very interested things like this
