Hot Swap SD cards?

Just wondering if there was ever a fix made so you could do this on an Amiga.  I remember helping someone out on another thread and reading an IDEfix patch that said it made so you could USE SD cards, but it didn't specify to what extent.

Anyone have dealings with this?

I seriously doubt that this can work out SIMPLY because (afaik) hot swap isn't supported on IDE itself.
So whatever adapter you will use (CF/SD/MS etc) it still connects to the IDE bus alas it won't be possible to support it.

Hm, it is possible.  I might have mixed up the CF for SD (My brain, I tell ya...).  Are CF and SD cards unusable without special drivers or patches?

If it the same file I read through (I'll double check when I get home) it still doesn't specify if it setups a "removable disk" environment.  I know there were drivers made for other removable media that was IDE based (CDROM, LS120, ZIPP) so why not these?

IdeFix probably won't work with a CF unless it is patched, real IDE solid state HD's will be fine.

Ok, I get that. So the patch on Aminet will only allow access to a CF or SD card but not allow for swapping right? Is it possible to create a driver or patch to do such a thing?

No. As mentioned above, it's not a driver issue, but the IDE standard does not allow hot swapping. CD and ZIP drives are different. There the drive itself remains in place and connected to the IDE cable, you only remove the disk. With flash memory like CF cards you remove the entire device from the IDE cable. This is not supported.

One would need to make an intelligent adapter which treats the flash memory card as removable disk and identifies itself to the IDE bus as removable harddrive.

I don't know if this specific adapter supports hot swapping but at least it's this kind of device which could support it. It also shows how much it would cost to get such a thing as opposed to the cheap CF-to-IDE adapters usually used.

The scsi card readers i sell will do hotswap(except for the card you boot from-any card is bootable on good controllers) the other 4 slots can be hotswapped. the controller must support LUNS and Reselection.

so for example you can boot off the cf slot, then use the SD slot to hotswap or memstik,smart media,or the pcmcia slot with cf adapter.

This works on A4000t scsi, cyberstorm scsi and the fastlane scsi,i haven't had time to try hotswapping on the 2091(the readers do work on it w/6x rom and up.. 7 is recommended.)also works on the warpengine.

This doesn't apply to the onboard ide,and everyone probably knows this but cf's are hotswappable on the A1200/600 pcmcia port with a pcmcia->cf adapter when using CFD.lha from aminet.Make sure u have the reset fixes/patches installed etc.

Oh, and the patch I was talking about was for CF readers working with IDEfix (IDEFix_Patches.lha on Aminet).
