4000D Rev. D Cr and GVP 4060DT
« on: July 03, 2011, 02:42:16 PM »
The motherboard works with the A3640 but I can't get it to work with the 4060. On either CPU jumper setting.

The motherboard doesn't have the CPU, FPU and 50 Mhz Oscillating crystal at U104.

If I installed the crystal would the 4060 work then?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you need the jumpers set to Int, meaning the internal clocks, so you will need the motherboard clock.

You shouldn't need an onboard CPU, in fact, most like mine don't have them.

Let me know how it works out, I've been considering buying one.

I have a Rev. B motherboard and it works with it, as it has the oscillator soldered on.

Reading http://amiga.resource.cx/mod/a4000.html says,

"no socket is provided for the 50 MHz oscillator which is required when installing an asynchronous processor board in place of the A3640"

So, am I right in thinking if I soldered a socket and installed the 50 MHz oscillator the 4060 should work?

As long as U106 and U102 are present the rest of the circuitry should be there as well - install the oscillator and off you go!

That I can't say.  I've got a lot of 4000D's, but none of them are built this way.

I'm afraid you may have to research it more or maybe one of the hardware gurus like stachu100 or Cosmos will be able to tell you for sure.

Edit: looks like I was beat to the punch with a more informed answer.  Good luck.
