IDE HDS for DPS PAR
« on: December 28, 2003, 10:26:50 PM »
I have just resurected my T3000 Toaster/PAR/TBCIV/AD516 by aquiring a used VT2000 card to replace the one that went funky a few years back.

Any one out there have a newer list of HDs that can be used with the DPS Personal Animation Recorder.

The drives I am looking for are specific for use with a CBM Amiga DPS Personal Animation Recorder. At least that is what the listing states in the manual. This information is dated 1994. Not sure if larger models are compatable so I am reluctant to purchase anything else.

Other drives I am looking for that are compatible with the DPS PAR

Seagate ST31220A  1gig
Connor CFA1275A  2.27gig
Micropolis 2217A  1.6gig

The website for DPS is practically useless.

Thanks,   T3000

Hi T3000,

I have the PAR card too.  The biggest IDE hard drive that you can use with it is 4 Gigs.  You can still get these drives new on eBay for less then $20.00.  You can use any IDE hard drive with the PAR card, just as long as it is not larger then the 4 Gig limit.  You can record up to 1.5 hours of animation on a 4 Gig hard drive.  I would recommend using the Seagate hard drive, they are the best and fastest hard drives.     :-)

Thanks for the info,
What size and model# are you using with your PAR? Any thing is better than the 820 or so megs already on board.

Information about the PAR is scarce. Either that or I'm not looking in the right place...

While waiting for a couple drives to arrive to connect to the PAR, I was dinking around with an old 630 meg Quantum to see what hoops I would have to jump through. Launching PAR returns an IDE error Type 4. Resetting the drive jumpers to cable select had undesirable results also.

I did find some info regarding multiple drives for the PAR as follows from http://www.leitch.com/software

Incident Report
Reference No: 19990730-020
Release Date:
Product Information
Product: Non Linear Editors
Sub-Product: Animation Systems
Category: Installation and Configuration
Incident Information
Summary: PAR (Amiga): Problems adding 2nd drive
Details: Errors when adding a second IDE drive to an Amiga PAR.

Solution: Dual-drive support for the Amiga PAR requires an IDE interface chip, designated AU8, revision B. The chip will have a marking of either "AU8 rev B" or "PAC-A8B". All but the earliest boards have this revision.

Solution for older boards: DPS can send the customer or the dealer a replacement chip, or the customer can send the board in for the upgrade.

Aslo info on max HD size.  Doesn't specify if this pertains to the Amiga PAR.
