A3000 hd led
« on: June 23, 2011, 05:09:53 AM »
Hi guys, I was lucky enough to come in to possession of a nice spec, nice condition A3000. It's a great machine, nice design too, I'm looking forward to tinkering with it and getting it up to at least OS 3.1. One slight niggle is that the hard disk LED isn't working. I've checked all the connections and it's fitted with a standard SCSI disk for now but nothing. Seems an odd thing to blow, is there anything I can check? Is this a common fault?

Cheers

Typically a bad solder. Easy fix if you are handy with an iron.

Do not try to solder these bcuz you will most likely lift the pcb tracks. Best is to glue the LEDS so they no longer flex on the small pcb then paint new track contacts with some silver conductive paint. Rear windshield demister silver paint works well for this, get from the local auto repair place. Usually sold as cheap repair kit for cars.

Make sure you test fit the case for the LEDS before you glue. The slots have fine tolerences to fit properly.

The LEDS usually get broken when people mismantle the A3000D's top lid and flex/crack/break the LEDS on the small PCB.

Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example
