Maybe install Workbench on it? I'd give the 3.1 disk labelled "Install" a go ;-)

If you have a set of Workbench 1.3 disks, install it.
It doesn't matter what machine they came with, it will work fine.

I didn't think 1.3 came with an install disk?  Does 1.3 even include a disk prep tool?  If so, you could boot workbench from floppy, prep (format) the HD then from DOS do a copy df0: hd0: (or similar - I forget the exact syntax).

I'm sure someone will give you more useful information though ...

1.3 and below came with neither an install disk, nor a disk prep utility. Simply copy the contents of the disk to your HD and reboot. Assuming of course, your HD is formatted, partitioned, is small enough to be seen by the OS, etc.

...I'm guessing your HD is somewhat prepped though, which is why it boots to the command prompt. When booting off the Workbench floppy, you might see an icon that represents your HD and partitions. If the icon reads something to the effect of "bad" or has garbage and goofy text under it, go ahead highlight it and select 'format' to prep it. If you do not see icons for your HD, you can always use an A2091 install disk to prep your HD using OS1.3.

Buy a 3.1 ROM and install WB3.1!

I've never had much fun with a HD equipped Amiga running 1.3.

Agreed.

I have my A2000 equipped with KS3.1 running OS3.9 (for which you need a 68020 or greater) and then run my games from WHDLoad.

I'm guessing that as he has a hard drive then he might have a SCSI controller with extra RAM... or he might want to add this beauty:

and a flicker fixer:

and why not get rid of that SCSI stuff and go IDE:

Do you have Kickstart 2.04 or 3.1?  Can't tell from your pic.

If you want I have a set of Workbench 2 disks (3) I can sell for cheap.  Let me know.

And if you don't have and 020 or greater then at least you can still use the roms to load up Wb3.1 i have that on my A1200 030 and its heavily customized i would say it almost as good as 3.9 (but i do mean heavily).
That way even WB3.1 you would have a far easier time with HD and stuff.

I'll bring over all the Workbench disks we need, and maybe a spare 3.1 ROM and a ROM Switcher so you can switch between 3.1 and 1.3 (the best all-round combo).

I might even have a spare null-modem cable hanging around to use for linked games with the A2000 and an A500, or for transferring stuff to and from a PC to the Amiga. Only thing is you would need a PC with a big serial port.

If you want, we can try and install Classic Workbench onto it. It's a very popular Workbench distribution which has several programs and utilities pre-installed and ready to go. It also provides a good base to work from and is set up for WHDLoad games already.

Have a look at these and see if you like the look of them:
