Last I heard Ratte was waiting for Oliver to do a firmware-update to support it, but so far nothing has happened.

I guess our best hope now is that the Indivision AGA Mrk2 will support it.

That means no more fw support for the current indivision aga?

That sucks.

Is this true that they don't support the Mk1 (upgrades I mean)? I don't like when companies punish you for buying their first production run.
I like my Indi but I know I will have to buy a whole new one when the MK2 comes out just because the MK2 will do things that mine can't. Its a shame I was hoping for an update as on some screen modes there is lots of tearing (lack of a better term) and I can't use them.

Ok wow.  NOTHING has been officially put out that the original Indivision AGA will no longer be supported!  Jens, of all people, does not work that way.

Please realize that for a one man show, he is doing some amazing stuff.  Also, keep in mind that he has several projects going on at the same time.

So, if a firmware update doesn't show up after a while, even a long while, it does NOT equal drop in support...

This guy alone does a lot of very nice hardware stuff for classic Amiga's. He, M. Boehmer and Chris Hodges should have a statue somewhere...

Perhaps this has given people the impression that Jens won't be supporting the Indivision MK I anymore:

There's currently no bug that I'm aware of - no update planned for those units. If you're asking for Graffiti support: Unfortunately, that's impossible with the kind of FPGA used (too small, not enough memory).

Does this screenmode need the Graffiti firmware to work?

Still, I wonder what exactly was holding up the screen mode.
I PMed Ratte in hopes to get his input on all this since he seems to be closer to the project them I am.

Regardless, that stinks that the FPGA on the MK-I is too small for the Graffiti core. :(

Maybe I'm just miss understanding your wording.  To me "abandon" means to totally dump and no longer support.  It sounds like Jens might just be done doing firmware updates.

That sounds more like he has maxed out it's ability, but it doesn't mean he will no longer support it.  It could be that he finds some more useful things while working on "Version 2" that could be put into the original.  I can totally see Jens doing a firmware for that.

Back to your point though.  If Ratte had superplus working already, then what firmware specific addition was he waiting for?  I PMed him earlier so I hope he can pop on and shed some light on this for us.

When you buy a new car, why doesn't the manufacturer invite you back to have some improvements fitted every once in a while? After all, they should be continually improving the car for your benefit, right? And any improvements they make should be applied to your car for free.

That's just an example of course, but it's similar to what some of you are complaining about.  When you buy a product, you are agreeing to purchase it with the specifications it has at the time.  The author or company responsible for it is not obligated to offer any continual improvement to that product for you, except of course where the improvement relates to a failure of the product to fully meet its original specification (fixing bugs etc).

If the author/company does manage to offer a free upgrade during the life cycle of the product that enhances its capabilities beyond the original specification, then that's a nice little bonus for you as the customer and you should be greatful for it.  But in no way should you be expecting it.

It's only natural that improvements will find their way into a new version of a product - that's how people stay in business.

Or, in the case of Amiga related companies, that's how people generate funds for their next project.  I think it's fair to say that nobody is going to be counting their millions here...
