A1200 Power Issues

Can someone explain to me why this happens?

I have used two different power packs on my A1200, and no matter what, time and time again I find my self having to pull the power out from the 1200 itself then plug it in in order to get the machine to boot.

More often than not, if I just leave it in like normal and turn on the power switch, the Amiga will power up, but will not boot until I use the above mentioned method.

I do not like having to do this, I don't have to do this with my A600, and I've tried the same two power packs on it.

Very annoying, and I think not good for the Amiga.

Any advice?

P.S. it acts the same with and without upgrades installed.

I'm not a hardware guy, but it seems like possibly a faulty capacitor issue...I'm sure somebody else might be able to shed more light on this.

Yep, I'd guess faulty capacitors alright. At least you know it's not the power pack itself... There are a handful of electrolytic capacitors at the power input area of the A1200, my money's on one of them after failing. If you are getting it repaired, it would be worth your while to get them all replaced, not just the faulty one...

There are people who do cap packs for the A1200/600, but there is probably a thread with the values (or you can get them of your machine by taking a look). Capacitors don't lst forever, and you can bet your bottom dollar they never used the best on the market when they produced these machines!

Could also be a loose/dirty power connector.

The connections appear to be fine, and I took an air compressor and blew the board down when I first got it from Chile.

That's my vote, wear and tear on those connectors and you have a very strange and unpredictable machine. I have experienced this with my 1st A1200, wound up with a rubber band looping around the connector and the machine to hold it in better.
