We all have different tastes, and that's a good thing. Life would be pretty boring if we all thought the same.
That said, are there any games whos general concensus of quality people disagree with? Either games that were received poorly that you liked, or something that was generally well received that you was underwhelmed with?

For me, it'd go a little something like:

games I liked that werent well received:

James Pond3. I actually strongly disliked this one for the 1st year or so I had it, although boredom eventually made me go back to it, and upon working out the controls properly found a pretty nice platformer in there.

Final Blow: received pretty average review scores apart from the graphics, but with some persistance I discovered a pretty well done boxing game (only decent one on amiga)

P-47: some ropey collision detection, but at least it favored the player. Quite a playable, albiet basic 2d shooter. There's just something about it that appeals to me.

Games That Were Well Received That I Was Underwhelmed About:

SuperFrog: More engine than game for my tastes. Well done, but I found it quite sterile. Controls are responsive, but "wrong". No inertia, etc on the player.

BattleSquadron: While I didnt dislike this one, I could never get right into it either, and from no lack of trying. Had many friends who liked it and I played it more than Id have liked, but I just never got much out of it. Another case of more technical proficiency than gameplay.

AlienBreed(s): I guess this mirrors the last 2 I mentioned in that its quite well done, but also pretty stale/sterile. Quite atmospheric, but the alluded to climax just never happns for my tastes.
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

Final Fantasy VII. I'll give it points for ambitiousness, but the plot's a half-coherent stew of extremely '90s cliches (magic is powered by lifeforce that's actually a stream of gel toothpaste under the ground, and that's why drilling for [strike]oil[/strike] Mako is bad!,) Cloud spends the first half of the game being annoying and the second half being bland, most of the best parts of the story were done better in Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, and the whole thing shows a lot of signs of being developed piecemeal and finished in a rush* (the character models look like they came from the Jaguar, no two pre-rendered cutscenes look alike, etc.) I'm not as ill-disposed towards it as I used to be, but all this "best game ever" talk? Nuh-uh.

* (If I had to guess, I'd say it was actually started for the N64 before Square had their falling-out with Nintendo and they didn't put enough work into updating the pre-existing material to mesh with the new stuff when they jumped to the Playstation.)

Rick Dangerous is all sorts of wrong gameplay wise IMO. Perfect example of a game that should have required the use of a real controller with discrete controlls instead of the dumbed down mechanics it has.

I quite liked Nightbreed (Interactive Movie version). Some PD games were great like Biplanes and Egyptian Run.
I've never understood what was so great about Rainbow Islands and much preferred Rodland to it.
Also Zool was a bit of a let down(I mean 97% from Amiga Computing?).

Shadow of The Beast 1. I borrowed it from a friend and every time I died (which is very easy to do early on) it took about 5 minutes to reload the first level. Think I only loaded it up once.

I suppose there could have been a problem with the disk (it was the budget re-release version). Looking back, surely a commercial game would never have been released that took so long to reload.

I thought Shadow of the Beast was overrated crap.  F18 Interceptor was terrible compared to Falcon.

Gods is the most overrated game for me. The controls are just stupid. Sure the Bitmap Brothers made it and it looked great but the game play sucked.
Even my cat doesn\'t like me.

@Kesa

Each to their own and all that, but I have to disagree.  Game play in Gods was spot on, very moreish. Also for me longevity is important and Gods was a pretty massive game.

I could not get into Dune. Friends would tell me it was an epic play. I found it to be bland and boring.
