game zip question
« on: June 08, 2011, 05:29:12 PM »
I have downloaded the game I wanted (amiga game) to my PC windows 2000 computer. I formated the the the 720 floppy  on PC(yes a real 720 disk)   copy game to it. formated my other 720 disk in my amiga opened diksmater and read pc disk with cross dos and then copied it to my blank formated amiga disk. using 2 floppy drives
I can see file files but  they do not run on the amiga...but if I unzip them on the PC game will run on pc what did i do wrong here? it looks like a lot of amiga files or down loads are in zip format..I'm using workbench 3.1  on a hard drive.
I need some help here
Thanks

OK, just so I'm clear, the steps were:
1. copy game.zip onto 720k floppy.
2. insert floppy into Amiga.
3.  unzip files on amiga.
4.copy unzipped files onto an 880k amiga floppy using diskmaster.

what kind of files were in the zip?  If they are .adf files, you are going to need a program to write them back to a floppy, such as:
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/adf2disk11

just popping those files onto a disk via copy doesn't cut it.

You will need the lha program in your c directory as well to un-lha the files.

Just got to AmiNet and download one of the UnZip utils for the Amiga like this one... :)

UnZip on AmiNet

Un-archive it and place it in your Amiga's C: Directory (same with LHA). There are doc files included with both that explain how to use them... :)

If this game runs on your "pc" then it isn't an Amiga version of the game. Find another source.

I have downloaded  the game EAB file server so I know I have a good copy.
What Is a good  unzip program to use with workbench 3.1 ?
Do all .zip get unziped through a CLI shell? I want to learn how to do this but no manuals and I have lots of question and would like examples on how to do this
Thx

What program are you using on the Amiga? IIRC, I used UnZip.lha  v5.40 that's available on aminet. Maybe not the easiet to use, but it worked.
