Theres various ways to do it but have you ever set up a dedicated machine just for UAE and little else?

Yes.  Stripped down XP install that boots right into WB 3.1.  Runs flawlessly on an Atom/Ion rig, and runs circles around any "real" Amiga I ever owned, heh.  Best of all, it's a mini-itx mobo that uses very little power and is nearly silent.

Was my guide with the boxes I did up.

Nope, UAE is always something I've run ontop of Windows as a curiosity although I've made a lot more use of it lately as a way of setting up custom Workbench installs for FPGA Amigas and my A4000.  I do have a WinUAE box though with a PCI Catweasle installed, but it rarely gets used.  I'm thinking about putting it in one of the PCI slots in my Mediator A4000 system.

Nah. I've run it on my existing Windows boxes, but if I'm gonna be spending money on an Amiga setup, I basically just want an actual, physical Amiga.
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/MT-32/D-10, Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha DX7/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini, Ensoniq Mirage/SQ-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-600, Hohner String Performer

Although I'm probably going to buy a netbook for, amongst other things, WinUae, so I can do some outdoor Amiga programming (on a nice summer day, in a nice place :)), I won't be making it boot into WinUae, because I want to use it for other things as well. Mobile internet using Opera is essential, for example (and I'm not going to bother with Amiga browsers).

This might be a stupid question, but what benefits would the catweasel add to an actual amiga?

In my case, I was planning on using it to write D64 files back to a 5.25" drive to use on my C64/C128, but my Chameleon cartridge might have made that pointless.  :D

Other uses would be to read non-standard disk types from your Amiga by connecting different drives.

Not really, would only do that if I put an x86 motherboard in a case from a dead Amiga though.

Nope - I use Windows and Amiga programs on many of the same projects, so its really handy to have both systems on the same machine. I have to add a Catweazel PCI card so I read/write Amiga disks soon.

I had a laptop which launched UAE and AmigaOS automatically. Worked like a charm, but I ditched that setup when I realised I shut UAE down to boot a games directly from ADF's instead.

I have a machine that is a dedicated amiga emulation machine.

I removed windows shell and replaced it with winuae/amiga os3.9

You never even know windows is underneath, unless something breaks and I have to fix it. I have a competition usb joystick but most everything else is just a stock 2ghz pc with a decent video card.

Feels alot like my old 1200 but much much faster and no flaky hardware problems ever... I have a backup of the entire system on 2 usb thumb drives, so it I ever have any problems its very easy to restart a new install.

When I get some extra money, I plan on buying a boing ball mouse and keyboard from amigakit for it, along with a catweasel so I can make floppies for my real amiga machines.

Doesn't the newest catweasel allow the use of amiga joystick and keyboard?

The thought is really tempting I must admit :)

Yes it does, which is another reason why I'd like one on this machine. I don't like this competition pro, its too clicky or something. I prefer to use a sega genesis controller or one of the others I had for amiga back in the day.

You can actually use an amiga keyboard/mouse and joystick with the new catweasel. Thats pretty awesome.
