Amiga Explorer / NULL Modem / EasyNet / MiamiDx

Ok, in my continual search for a way to get files to/from the Amiga, I'm striking out on almost all fronts.  The only way I've been able to do it without any sort of error has been to burn a disc on the PC and use it that way.

Amiga Explorer is not working reliably with NULL Modem or TCP... I get COM and TCP read errors all over the place, regardless of EasyNet or MiamiDx when it is TCP.  I've done some successful transfers with NULL Model, but more times than not it simply errors out.  TCP appears to work ok at first but times out tryung to retrieve folder information to compute "time to copy".

So in a net search I came across the EasyNet capability of mapping to a PC drive.  However, when trying that to a Windows 7 machine that has the target drive completely open, I receive an error from the EasyNet software

"Mountlist STARTUP: bad template"

and

"Host Cannot be contacted!
Connection field contain not enough \"!

If anyone can provide insight into this I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm trying to copy a 200+ MB partition before I wipe it.  I want to simply save that software for later perusal.  Perhaps there is CD burining software I can get to the Amiga from a CD?  But even in that case, that would only solve the immediate problem because I'd like to have the transfer capability open as a future option and not rely on CD's.

The SMB solutions available for AmigaOS only work with WinXP.

The easiest and fastest way to get your data to the PC is to connect the HDD to the PC and use WinUAE to access it.

If you have your Amiga on a local area network, you can use FTP.  You can set up a FTP server on your PC.  Then use an FTP client on your Amiga to transfer files back an forth from your PC.  FTP is fast and reliable.  I've also used SMB which works well, but is a bit tricky to set up.

Maybe get a cheap IDE to Compactflash adapter?

Otherwise I vote for a DENEB USB card which gives you USB stick or flash access, or just connect a compatible USB ethernet dongle.

I regularly backup (LHA) my complete HD to a USB stick which is 8x the size of the complete HD ;-)

I have been using Amiga Explorer w/ some success but like you, mine eventually chokes on lots of files or a really big file; I start getting errors or AE will freeze.

The serial on the PeeCee is a USB -> 9 pin serial adapter. It works ok but I have suspicion it is not the same as a real serial port.

I'm looking to try Amiga -> serial to Ethernet adapter -> network slip / PPP.

I have never tried that before.

I have an ICD AdIDE - not supported by UAE, will not read the CF card

I can confirm that EasyNet file sharing will work with Windows 7

Here are the settings I use in:

> Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings

o Turn on file and printer sharing
o Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders
o Enable file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryption
o Turn off password protected sharing

I use a regular IPv4 address (static) for ease of connection and have a folder which is called Shared which the Amiga connects to with a guest account from EasyNet

I didn't even think about a flash drive but that makes perfect sense!  I have a 1GB sitting collecting dust.

Now, as to the other suggestions... I'll definately keep FTP in mind and I'll try the EasyNet suggestions.  I thought I was wide open but I admitedly am just starting to get used to Win 7 so I may have missed something.

Could you please elaborate on what to do from the EasyNet side? I have everything sorted out from the Windows side. I do have the floppy that comes with EasyNet. What do install, where and how I use that to create the connection? Please help.
