With the caveat that i havent done anything with it yet but amos pro is installable and runs on a 1200 though you need to boot up in ecs mode

Same here, runs fine on my Amiga 1200, with 68040 25mhz with 32 meg ram.

Of course no AGA support, well there was none back in 1993.

one comment ... i have collected/bought most extensions that are available for amos. There is no Extension to use Amos to create AGA Games. There are Intuition Extensions to create Applications, f.e. you can download a Intuition Extension (Slot 14 or 25) under http://achurch.org

I recommend starting with AMOS Professional. It's the best version of AMOS so far. The interface is better than in previous versions, the help-function is working fine and there's a ton of extensions (adds new commands) available for download. :) I strongly recommend getting the AMCAF-extension from Chris Hodges right away. You can find it here: AMCAF download

I've written a short article about the AMCAF-extensions and the Easylife-extension on my blog. Feel free to check it out here: Review of AMCAF

As mentioned by others, AMOS Professional works fine on the Amiga 1200 with a HD. :)

You can find the manual for AMOS Professional here: AMOS Professional manual

Hope this was of help and best of luck with your programming! :)

While there's no official support for aga it is possible to use aga without any extensions. You are however still restricted by amos/amos pro itself a little. By this I mean no 128 or 256 color modes, 64 colors is only available in ehb, no aga sprite modes, no 1280xX screenmodes and so on. You can however use double bandwidth mode, 32, 64 and 4096 colors in 640xX screens and a few other AGA-isms.
To do so you simply need to set up a simple copper list that will make amos use aga equivalents (in ocs/ecs color precision though) to what amos/amos pro offers by default.
There's some easy, ready to use examples on aminet by Chris Hodges (he of amcaf and poseidon usb stack fame) that show a person how.

This is probably the closest thing to useful use of aga for amos available. Anything else is such a chore, and limited to use to a point you may as well learn Blitz instead :)
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.
