Icaros Desktop 1.3 now available
« on: June 01, 2011, 08:25:53 PM »
The new "point release" of the popular AROS distribution Icaros Desktop has been released, and is available for download in the usual two versions, Light (ideal for CD-ROM and pendrives) and Live! (the whole software pack on a DVD).

This version brings a completely renewed AmiBridge, now using Janus-UAE coherency mode to integrate M68K Amiga applications in the AROS desktop; a better choice of games and applications, a exclusive emulator of the Nintendo NES, and many other enhancement to every side of the distribution.

A complete press release for editors is available here

Files, screenshots and further infos are on the Icaros website

Thanks Paolone for all your hard work and efforts! Aros keeps getting better and Icaros desktop makes getting an aros system going so much easier than the vanilla aros install.

Its a very usable system right out of the box with icaros, since it bundles most everything you will need. Paolone has done a fantastic job over the years and I'm glad this effort continues.

Thanks Paolone!

Has someone tested it NATIVELY on a Macbook (intel)? Be it Intel or Nvidia graphics.
Does it boot at last?

Icaros is easier to install than any Linux since it requires hardly any setting up, but you had better make sure you have some free, unformatted space on your hard drive. It also requires a reboot after you run the installer the first time, since it only sets up the partitions the first time you run it, and detects them and continues the next time, after rebooting.

The installer is pretty straight forward, just select the device to install it to, optionally specify a size of the partition and if you want a Work partition, then after the reboot you run it again and it installs the whole system to your drive while you multitask and play a game or get a cuppa.

I've been using Icaros for a long time now and love it. I also use Broadway on some of my machines so I can keep an eye on both distributions and get the best of both worlds.

I'm going to have to try it out on a few of the PCs I have built over the last couple of weeks from spare parts I found in junk piles on the side of the road.

Excellent stuff. :D

Hope I can try it this weekend. I am expecially curious about Nouveau 5.3.
