UK lurker now fully returned
« on: May 31, 2011, 12:54:42 PM »
Hi

I have been a member on here for a while and have looked at the site a couple of times a week for many, many years despiting having no Amiga at the time.

I started off back in er 1992 or something with a bog standard 500. I later replaced this with a 1200. That started standard then I got an external PC desktop case which housed a hard drive and cd drive connected via a long IDE cable and its power supply was rigged to power the 1200 as well. I then got a Blizzard 1204 iirc? 28mhz 020 and 4meg fast ram.

I used this for most of uni, downloading in the labs and transferring via crossdos etc. Used to play Xtreme Racing all the time and even made a website hosted back on Tripod (think it was) with all the available tracks people had made etc. I eventually got a PC and one day sold the Amiga as I simply wasnt using it.

As I type this other memories come back. I had a 25mhz 040 card in it briefly at some point and also for a very short time a Blizzard PPC, think it was the base 166 603 and 25mhz 040 version, presumably I sold them before selling the 1200 (!!?), wish I had kept them now etc heh.

Bought a 3000 desktop with a CV64 in it but later sold that. Think thats it....well other than I had a C +4 before the 500!

So anyway, monitored this site over the years, odd tinkering with Winuae etc but I just recently picked up another 1200, came with a 4meg fast ram board and a old 1701 or something monitor. Finally got round to trying it out last night. It had a hard drive in an external dataflyer box which sounds like its about to take off/explode so I had a tinker ;)

Few hours of my time and I managed to find a old ide 2.5" HDD, plug it into the 1200, use the HDtoolbox to partition it (I know its limited to 4 gig partitions but it only saw 8gigs on the 80gig drive in total, some addressing issue with old KS 3.0 maybe, will google, not relevant as tons of space!) then I plugged the drive into my PC (shudder), using Winuae got the AmigaSYS package working, transferred it over to the amiga formatted drive, plugged it back into the 1200 and voila, see the below heh.

Didnt get any further as I fired up Xtreme racing and was on that for a while. Will probably put the 1200 back together at some point although I think its a requirement that they are used half assembled these days lol although I want to have a cd drive so will probably do the external case route again

:)

Kesa- nope that's just a cheapskates version of a bicycle... :)

@ Dir

Wow... if you'd hung onto your 040 & PPC board until now, then you could've put them on eBay and made enough money to buy a bike with two wheels, heck you could have even have got a tricycle with the money you'd get these days for them... :)

Welcome back to the loony bin anyway, now all you have to do is rob a bank and pop on eBay to buy your old stuff back... :)

Yes Franko I cannot believe the price some of the boards go for! Its quite annoying that Phase 5 etc never made the designs open source especially as my works sister company who I do IT support for is a pcb manufacturer for small and large runs with some fairly fancy machines! Then the other sister company is an engineering one and we have made quite a few products in custom cases based around various single board computers etc
