A500 flashes green before normal boot
« on: May 27, 2011, 05:31:34 PM »
So I've decided to get my amiga's running again, and for the most part everything has gone better than expected, however I've run into a few issues one of which I'm not sure is an issue at all:

I have a Rev 5. A500, Kickstart 1.2, no memory expansion that flashes green momentarily before continues onto the normal Kickstart screen.

As evidenced from other threads and googling, the green screen indicates a problem with chipram, or more likely poorly seated agnus. From what I've read I expected if this was the issue I would see the green screen and a flashing power LED, and no further progress if this was the issue. However I continue on at least as far as the insert disk screen, and the power LED is on solid.

So the question is, does this represent an issue I should look deeper into, or is it something that might be considered normal?

Definitely not normal, but chipram failure can have other reasons than poor Agnus contacts (bad RAM chip, fluctuating power supply, bad Agnus, bad Gary, ...). I'd keep it in mind and look deeper into it when any serious issue comes up.

Thanks. This is more or less what I was expecting. I plan on re-checking, and cleaning this machine over the weekend. Perhaps that will help things, if not I'll just have to keep an eye out.
