Trying to get my Amiga(s) to display

Hey guys,

Getting back in to my Amiga after over a decade being away.

I went on an ebay rampage and bought an A1200, A3000 and XRGB-2 convertor.

I tried the SCART route w/Euro to Japan connector, but my Sony can't display the resolution output by the XRGB-2, from what I can tell.

I can get a clean signal going straight to PC input from the A3000 for the desktop, but so far no games I've loaded up will display. I've read elsewhere that's because the workbench displays differently, but am unclear on just what the difference is.

Any help on what sort of monitor or LCD to pick up would be awesome. Thanks!

The 3000 should work fine with the scan doubler. Does it have any sort of RTG card?

I use a simple external scan doubler for my 1200 as well as a normal PC monitor.

Its not perfect, but it works rather well, except for interlace modes

Most people said its very flaky, is this true or not?

I'm curious too, I have a new 1200 and not decent way to display.  Since the AGA scan doublers are not available at the moment, an alternative is needed.

Are there other alternatives?

hiya,

You can use the VGA + Multisync monitor drivers to make WB display in VGA mode which will allow you to use your 1200 with most(all?) monitors without the need of an external scan-doubler.   Most old games/demos won't let you use this mode but newer stuff like ScummVM AGA will work just fine.

I've also found out that some modern monitors like my BenQ 24" HD will display all the 1200's standard modes.

All you need is a simple RGB to VGA adapter from AmigaKit....job done.

Otherwise just wait for Jens to release the IndivsionAGA Mrk2 or try and hunt down a second hand Mrk1

Not sure what you mean by flaky. Its pretty good but not amazing. You do get a tiny amount of ghosting but its not very noticeable at all.

I havent tried productivity mode, but I can check it out once we unpack everything after moving. I usually just use the PAL hi res mode.

You mean you can run games and demos on it in 15KHz?
And it's not a LCD-TV connected with scart?

I think some BenQ models start from 24 kHz, not lower. At least mine does. But it also starts from 44 Hz, which is quite rare.

Yeah, I bought the A1200 first. The A1200 is compact and quieter, so it would be cool to get it up and running eventually.

Anyway, the A3000 displays WB just fine to my LCD TV via PC input, but when I load games, it goes dark. Could that be a Pal issue? I haven't done extensive testing yet, but it didn't work with Flashback or Zool. I'm thinking I need a multi-sync LCD of some kind.

I heard Indivision is coming out with a new flicker fixer in a few months for the A1200.

I have an old Mag PS976D (19" LCD) that can display 640x200 15KHz but nothing else.  But it requires some overscan adjustment to do it.  I may use this till the AGA scandoubler is available again.  I haven't tried games yet as I'm still getting setup.

Did you try flipping the toggle switch on the back (by the vga port) of your 3000 when it goes dark?

It's possible the built-in SD/FF is off and just passing the signal through to your tv, which is able to display your workbench, but not the 15hz display of games.

If that fails, there is also the trim screw you can adjust which could help.
