Classic XBOX Wifi Adaptor

Has anyone tried to use one of these with there computer? Does it need drivers, or does it just work through your current network configuration somehow? I ask because I was thinking it would be one wireless solution while we wait on PowerBook and Wifi support from the MorphOS Team, and Wifi support for the Acer laptop from the AROS team.

Any wireless bridge would work. Wireless bridges connect to an Ethernet port and broadcast/receive a network connection over WiFi. You don't need WiFi drivers, you just need a working Ethernet port. I've suggested it as a workaround in the past, but of course it's not ideal as mobility is limited.

Why do you need to work around WiFi issues with AROS by buying a wireless bridge like the one you linked to? You can buy supported WiFi cards for AROS now, for both desktops and laptops. If you want WiFi with AROS there's no need to wait any longer. Of course, if you want to use WiFi on MorphOS too then the workaround is still necessary.

If you're going to buy a wireless networking bridge, you might as well get a half decent one, the XBOX one you linked to is only supports up to Wireless-G, this option supports Wireless-N:

Is there a particular model of laptop that runs AROS to the best of its potential, and has supported internal Wifi?

Also I heard that AROS's support for Wifi did not extend to USB adaptors. Has this changed?

Thankx for the link, now I just hope that MorphOS makes it to the Powerbook some day.

This doesn't work with USB, it works with Ethernet. In the example I posted, USB is just used for power, nothing more.

Any model of wireless network bridge will work, as I said before you just need a working network card/supported on-board network device to give you the Ethernet connection.

I understand. What I was wondering was more in regards to AROS's support for the native wifi on various netbooks such as the ACER, also I was wondering if they have began to support certain USB wifi cards as well.

Not yet on USB WiFi support, but it's part of the WiFi bounty, so should be done eventually.

As I said before though, if you want supported WiFi on a laptop you don't have to wait, any laptop with a miniPCI slot will do, as you can get supported WiFi cards that will fit in laptops internally.

Yes we have one, this should have been built into the Xbox from day one not sold separately. They finally built it in to the slim Xbox after so many years of customers complaining.

There was no slim Xbox 1 (or at least, none released officially. There are some nice case mods shown here: http://hackaday.com/2010/02/02/our-favorite-xbox-to-htpc-hacks/ ), you're talking about the Xbox 360. They're different, as are their WiFi adapters.

Yes I know, I should have been more clear in my post. I was referring to the slim Xbox 360 or whatever they are calling that slim sliver of poo system these days.

My brain should have Kineticed better and called it the slim Xbox 360 not the slim Xbox.
