Amiga OS4 / Internet
« on: May 21, 2011, 07:59:49 AM »
I recently downloaded the OWB amiga os4 ppc browser for my A1200 OS4 ppc system.

I never was able to figure out how to get the internet network connection set up on OS4. In the manual, it advises to follow the New Connection Wizard, which I have tried, but I think it always just ends with a timeout error, and no connection file gets installed into the Connections folder. I am trying to use a cnet.device (for one of those network cards that connects I think to the 1200 PCMCIA slot) to a (wired) Time Warner RoadRunner cable (dynamic connection) modem.

Is there any online OS4 network connection guide available? or can anyone advise me step-by-step how I can manually configure the cable internet connection?

I am able to "connect" to the internet using Miami Deluxe. My understanding though is that this forces the 68k emulation to kick in - is that correct? I am able to use IBrowse v2.4, but the internet connection does not seem accessible from OWB. Is there any manual way to transfer the network connection configuration from Miami Deluxe to the OS4 network configuration?

((also, on a separate issue: with MiamiDeluxe on the Amiga 1200 PPC, after being connected for a while, I get the error: "the DHCP server refused to renew the lease on your IP address" and then the connection shuts down. What setting do I need to change so that the lease is automatically renegotiated -- the A1200 is connected via the network card to a SMC barricade router which connects to the cable modem. I have a Windows computer connected also to the router, and it does not have this lease negotiation issue)).

was amiga os4.0 compatible with the apnet PCMCIA network card on amiga 1200/blizzard ppc systems? or is the PCMCIA slot invisible to the PPC side?

if anyone has been able to get the network configuration settings to work, can someone send me the file so I can try manually putting the file into the connections folder?

I was using PCMCIA Ethernet and Wireless Ethernet just fine under my OS4.0
Once I'll have the OS4.1 setup I'll probably write a guide about it.

I recomend to setup the internet connection manualy from the prefs/internet program. There's not many steps required to do so. if you can configure miami you should have no problem using  the roadshow prefs.

I don't have any os4 machine here at work but selecting the cnet.device and select dhcp should do it.

I'm presently using 3.1, 3.5, 3.9 and 4.1 on a regular router via the same cnet.device driver with built in modem no problem.

One thing I did at the router end was to reserve a fixed local IP address for all the permanently attached devices (PC, A1, A1200, printer, IPcam and so on) and leave the DHCP server to dole out new addresses only for transient connections.
