DENEB USB Questions
« on: May 19, 2011, 08:01:18 PM »
Since I'm just finding my way back onto this scene, I'm trying to build up my A3000 system and need to look at all the options.  Can someone comment on the following questions as I've not been able to find all the information I've been looking for by searching the Googlenet...

1) Is the DENEB card still manufactured/available?

2) Any known issues with using external USB hubs with these?

3) Anyone with one of these ever used an external CD/DVD drive on it?

Thanks!

1) Yes, AmigaKit has it in stock last I checked.

2) Yes, some of the chipsets have problems - check http://www.platon42.de or the Poseidon documentation

3) Yes, I have for example, installed AmigaOS 4.1 Classic using an external USB CDROM connected to a Deneb.

Amigakit does not have them in stock ATM, but Vesalia does.  I am worried as this is my next foo purchase, but I really hope they aren't all gone by the time I get one :D

I had some problems with mixed ZIP Ram memory (mixed manufacturer & not same speed). It's better to have Buster 11 and same type of ZIP. My USB Floppy drive (USB) is recognized but don't works.

Yes, I have a little slim CDROM and it works just fine. It takes 2 cables however, one for data and another for power. I have never had a problem; I just plug it in when needed.

If you are a regular customer, ask them to put one aside for you, but only if the time before you can purchase is short.  Asking them to wait more than a week or so would not be cool.  They might say no, or they might say yes, it does not hurt to ask.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

For those of you with the external CD drives... you can confirm that the DENEB can be used with them if they require both ports (one data, one power)?

I was looking for a drive that used A/C power but am having a hard time.  If the card can power the drive by using both ports then I'm fine with that.  I'm going to try to find a powered hub that will work anyhow.

For devices that draw alot of power from usb, a powered usb hub is recommended.

No one can confirm for you, unless you state the exact model cd drive you are asking about, not every one has the same power requirements. It's really not worth getting worked up over, any computer shop is going to have powered hubs for only a few bucks.

Well, this was recommended to me by Michael B. E3B, to use a powered hub, when using a dual cable USB CDROM drive.

Still, I have not had an issue at all with mine, connected direct. I also do not leave it plugged in all the time, aforementioned.

I'm not that regular - yet!  I like vesalia, but they tend to be more expensive for us 'Mericans.

Wow.  You really need to put an expected date on your page when you are out of stock.  I've been watching it like a hawk these past few days and I ended up ordering from Versalia earlier today because you were still listed as out of stock.  I guess I could still cancel that since I have not paid it yet - need other things I was gonna order from you anyhow so I'll save a bit if I go that route.
