Average Amiga user age?
« on: May 17, 2011, 09:35:23 PM »
Not how old are you, but how long have you been an Amiga user?  I was just wondering how long many of our most active posters here have been using an Amiga.

Edit:  My curiosity is mostly how many users fall into the last choice in the poll, how many are "Newbies" and have only started using an Amiga within the last 5 years or less.  I know that there are some that have posted on the forums here that have stated that they have only been using an Amiga for a few years, which is surprising that there are people that could be interested in starting to use a system that was designed and produced over 25 years ago.  It is a real testament to what the Amiga is and how unique it is, as I doubt that any other system of similar age could boast it has as many new users as the Amiga.  Who would be interested in starting out with an Atari, an Apple II, or even the famous Commodore64, if they had no previous experience with those or other old computer systems in the past to spark their interest in old systems.  The Amiga has an appeal that none of the other old computer systems have, that can still inspire a curiosity and interest in new users today.  Not a large number of people, but still some new users are drawn to the Amiga each year.  Unfortunately, the number of new users is only a fraction of the number of Amiga users that stop using Amiga systems and our community continues to decline in numbers.

How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

I found out about the Amiga in the late '90s and acquired one in 2000 - but I had to part with it shortly thereafter, and didn't get back into things until early 2010.

Wish you had a choice for people who were pioneering users but stopped for period(s) of time.

I always wanted one in the 80's, but could not afford one till about 94. Have been hooked since.

I belonged to a Commodore User Group that was bombarded by Commodore and local Commodore and Amiga dealers from the time the Amiga was released (or maybe a wee bit earlier). There was a lot of activity with the user groups back then.
I almost bought an A1000, but waited until the first A500s came out.
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

Since mid 1987. Joined A.org I think some time late 1996, before the reboot years later.

Hi,

Bought mine about 2 weeks after they came out. Would that count as Forever?

Bought my first Amiga World magazine 2 weeks before the Amiga 1000 arrived in the store so that I could read up on it and see if it was even worth looking at, it partially sounded to good to be true, when the Amiga 1000 came out looked at it for two weeks after that (everyday) before I bought it. Had to make up my mind since I was programming with Lotus 123 and Dbase II. Bought the Amiga 1000 then bought Transformer. Worked at great and only spent $1295.00 for the Amiga 1000, and $99 for Transformer. Saved about $1000 not having to buy a PC (really expensive from $1595 for a Tandy Sensation to $4995 for a big blue).

Wow. 19 years of using Amiga is a little surprising. You lose track of time. 8) Those long trips to Portland Maine for the user group are still a fun memory.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.
