SCSI Devices
« on: December 22, 2003, 08:33:20 AM »
How many scsi devices can one connect to a single scsi ribbon? I'd like to remove my CD-ROM from it's external case, and mount it into another external case containing 2 hard drives to save desk space. The case has 3 molex power connectors, but only 2 scsi ribbons. The power supply is 200 watt. Is enough power?

With narrow SCSI you can have up to 8 devices including the controller. With Wide SCSI you can have up to 16 including the controller.

Check EBay for the ribbon cable, I've seen them
there with 4 device connectors for about $5.00 U.S.

200 watts should be plenty, I had an PC-AT tower
case for my SCSI case on my A500 BBS machine
and had 3 Rom drives and 2 hard drives on a 150
watt PSU. I also used the PSU to run the A500 with
A570 CD rom & AmiTrix SCSI controller for the tower.
Never had a problem with power.
So go for it, it should work fine.
