Mediator Card Network Question?
« on: April 30, 2011, 07:19:02 AM »
Hello All,
In my spare A4000T I have Mediator PCI Bus Board installed.
I was wondering if using a cheap PCI Network card would be faster than using a standard Zorro 2 (2065 or XSurf ex) network card. As Elbox claims it could run at full 100 Mbps compared to normal 10 Mbps on a standard Amiga Zorro Network cards. Or on the Amiga it would not make a diffrence?

I would like to hear your comments on the subject.
Thanks in advance,
Merv Stent

There's difference, the Zorro cards are 10Mbps and in the Mediator you can install  a standar 10/100 Mbps Realtek card, but you must install a Voodoo 3 ( or similar) graphics card too.

If not, you only can install an old Realtek 10 Mbts card.

It\'s my new CHAMELEON 64 A C64 or an AMIGA ?

I have a set up like that.  I'll have to see what the actual throughput is.  The true reason for more than 10mbps is really when you're copying things over NFS or something.

I'll post and let you know what I find.

Mine is an A4000D though, and other than the mediator, a radeon and the network card (well I have an Indivision AGA in it as well.) it's stock.

I just tried to download the m68k version of Debian (112mb) and ibrowse hit 100,000 cps.  But it kept jumping up and down, which is making me think it's the site I'm downloading the ISO off of, rather than the Amiga.  Is that Characters Per Second?

Do you have a Deneb in it?  I use a USB Ethernet adapter on my A4000.
