Delfina WOW!!
« on: December 22, 2003, 03:24:43 AM »
I bought a Delfina lite card off eBay a couple of days
ago, mostly so I can play MP3 files on my Amiga.

The amiga might be a bit slower than my 500mhz
G3 PowerMac, but with the CyberVision 64/3D
card and the Delfina card, it has about the same
functionality for most things than I do.

Now if my AUI to 10/Base-T connector will arrive, I'll
even have it connected to my cable modem.

I copied several MP3 files to the Amiga to test, and both
AmigaAMP and AMPlifier worked great for the small files
but for really big files like my 283MB "Harry Potter and the
Goblet of Fire" AMPlifier dies after a short while and makes
a noise like an Ideling motor, and locks up the computer
and I have to reboot. But AmigaAMP plays everything
 just fine.

Any Delfina users out there have any tips for me?

Thanks

Chuck E.

Have you installed delfinampeg.device? It allows playback of mpeg audio with virtually no CPU time. Great stuff! It outperforms my Athlon 500MHz Windoze box in terms of playback consistency: No jumps, skips, etc. Do a search for 'delfina' on Aminet to find it.

What version of delfina.library are you using? I found that the older official releases crashed every 3 minutes and the newer releases for the Flipper don't work with my Delfina Lite. It sounds like you've had better luck than me :-)

Enjoy your Delfina!

Matt,

Yes I have installed the DelfMPEG.device and set it up
with AMPlifier and the MHI library so I can use it in
 AmigaAMP.

Also I have installed the AHI retargetable audio stuff.

And I have the DelfMpeg player and the DelfSND player,

The Delfina Library version I am using is a BETA
Version 4.16 Beta 48 I think I got it from the "Individual
 Computing" Website

Also found a utility called DelfTweak and reset the
clock speed multiplier so the the DSP runs at 56mhz

I was up 'till about 4:30am sunday morning Google
searching and Aminet searching for Delfina stuff
trying it out and installing what I want to keep.

What problems are you having with yours?

My BlizzPPC with paula14 audio under AmigaAMP AHI outperforms my 500MHz PC for mp3 playback without clicks/pops etc - said PC has a SBLive 5.1 card and updated drivers too  Only the general quality is better (of course), but any kind of moderate system activity causes clicks & pops...

Yet, playing mp3 on amigaAMP on a 240MHz 603, with no acceleration for mpeg and PIO drive access is smooth and uninterrupted, unless something hogs the CPU for too long.

So I guess you don't even need hw mpeg decode on amiga to embarass a 500MHz class PC ;-)

You could try to use the patched delfina.library from Smack. I'm using this one (patch2): http://jpv.wmhost.com/delflib_patch_2.lzx
I don't remember how big files I've tried to play, but I guess at least 100MB.. and all have played fine. I mostly use Amplifier and Delfmpeg.
Amplifier also streams nicely the mp3-streams..
I haven't tried betas from IC, but all newer Petsoff betas still had that hang bug with Lite (Smack's patches fix that).
Daily MorphOS user and Amiga active.

You shouldnt have any trouble playing mp3s on a 500mhz pc unless youre using some like windows media player under windows 95 and 8megs of ram :)

My parents 200mhz Winchip pc (think as bad as early cyrix cpus) plays mp3s fine under winamp2 even with word etc running.
