3.9. Unable to boot into ECS mode?
« on: April 29, 2011, 05:05:13 AM »
So a few games (Battle Isle, Dune, Monkey Island) needs to be booted into ECS mode from the early boot menu (when holding down both mouse buttons)

But after I've installed 3.9, this no longer seems to work. Am I hosed or is there another way to do it?

Strange.  Anything to do with the ROM updates?  Try switching the A1200 off and then turn it on and instantly hold down the mouse buttons before it gets a chance to loaded OS3.9 and update the Kickstart from the hard drive.
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

Im guessing it has to be related to the ROMs yeah.

I'll try your option later tonight and see if it works.

Just tested it and even from a cold boot, it doesn't make any difference. :(

Are you booting the games off floppy or from your hard drive?
If when booting from your hard drive it reboots after installing some patches etc then it might forget your decision. IIRC there is software that allows you to switch back to ecs after booting workbench.

It's been a while, so I don't know if it's this that I used to use but it was something similar.

This is off hard drive (from floppy, they work fine).

I'll check that out, thanks! :)

If the CLI/WB screen is activated before game launch it might interfere try a program like TUDE (aminet) to sort it out.

For me it works as expected. The ROM update reboots the Amiga and you have to change the boot options after each reboot. So you have to wait until the ROM update is active and only then hold down both mouse buttons. You can see that the ROM update is active by the fact that the new options Double PAL and Double NTSC are available in the Display Options of the boot menu.

I get the early startup menu but when I boot (or boot without startup) the screen goes white and I have to press AA+CTRL to reset again. The options I selected still work though.

Hi,

Usually the setpatch command in the startup-sequence enables aga. Try putting a semi-colon in front of it to disable it.

This. I had the same issue switching from NTSC mode to PAL mode, gotta wait for the second boot to change the options.

okay, so timing the mouse buttons during the boot process (during the soft reboot) worked.

I'll check out the tools provided too though, to see if I can get it working easier

Thanks guys!
I was concerned about not being able to play Battle Isle anymore.
