Amiga kickstart ROM 3.1 vs A600
« on: April 24, 2011, 11:06:34 AM »
Trying to get an A600 to use a 3.1 ROM, works great on the A500 but in the A600 I just get a black screen and the A600 just sits there.

Original 2.XX ROM works fine, and so does a 1.3 ROM I have.

The version of the ROM is 40.63 so should work from what I've read, at a loss :-/

The socket in the A600 is bigger than the chip. If you leave the wrong two pins spare, the chip will be destroyed.

Hello!
If you mounted the ROM correctly, the black screen is just related to the IDE timeout, which is faaar longer than in KS 2.05 or 3.0.

It happened the same to me: I assume you have no hard disk connected to the A600.
In this case scsi.device (driving IDE controller) waits for hard disk responding for 15 secs or so.

Just wait for 30 seconds: if the screen stays black, you have a different problem; otherwise you'll see the common violet screen with disk insertion animation.

First check the power LED. It should light at once with half brightness and about half a second later with full brightness. Do not wait if it stays half bright! The longer you wait the more likely the chips will be destroyed if connected wrong. If the power LED becomes full bright, the chips are connected correctly.

Thinking it's the IDE Time out issue, as the 3.1 ROM works fine once transferred back to the A500. Will give that a try thanks guys.
