AROS Live on qEmu to install on host-disk
« on: April 23, 2011, 06:17:26 PM »
If I boot AROS Live using the Emulator which comes along the DVD ISO, can I from there install AROS on the free space on my HDD which is hosting the operating system ?

The HDD has a lot of unpartitioned space. And it has no DVD player.

I also tried to insert a USB stick while running AROS Live on the qEmu but it did not see any USB devices.

Any tips ?

in the same vote, I ran the the live dvd on my desktop and seen the option to install, but didn't show my spare 100 gig drive (in my laptop) .. Ran the live dvd from boot and says no available boot media ... (sorry to hi jack the thread) .. same thing for broadway too!.  Guessing it could be a sata issue?

Did you boot off the DVD itself or did you also boot AROS via qEmu thru windows ?
When I boot AROS Live via qEmu I can install to the virtual harddisk of 8GB which is what is configured for qEmu environment (it seems)  -- but I can not see any physical harddisks, nor any USB devices which I connect.

I wonder how I can get AROS via qEmu to see the USB stick or the Physical disk on my machine.

i tried thur qemu and it did not see any hard disks from the desktop install so cancelled it scared it would wipe out my main hard drive. I booted off the dvd when i rebooted my laptop and after the graphic mode select it when to a grey screen saying no bootable media found :(

Personally I've not tried QEMU in a long time, tend to stick to VirtualBox, recommend you try using that instead, let me know if you get stuck:

I'll try to boot the ISO using virtual box as you suggested. Maybe then, AROS will see my USB stick so I can install on this one.

You should find this guide I put together useful, it allows you to directly access USB drives in VirtualBox:

Virtualbox should boot directly from the ISO,no need for USB stick.

Yes, but by the sounds of it espskog wants to use a VM as a tool to install AROS to a USB flash drive. Perhaps he wants to boot it natively on a netbook?
