Dual 68060s
« on: December 20, 2003, 09:32:54 AM »
I came across this image a couple of years ago on a site that sold 040 and 060 boards. I can't for the life of me remember the place, and haven't been able to find it since (though that's probably just a google away)

Dual 68060s

Don't dual 68060s just look cool :)

This look like a singel board computer (a embedded system). The ports looks like ethernet, vga, serialport and unknowns. And there are a lot of chips (chipset and some kind of ram I suppose).

It does. I think it's a VMEBus machine, made by synergymicro.

VMEBus stuff is something I've never worked with, but just looked awfully cool :)

You can find more models of this kind of 060 boards here, even mil-spec boards (hi DoomMaster! ;¬) :

The boards in the image is made by Eltec Electronik AG (www.eltec.de), model Eurocom 27/2

Thanks for the comments on the site =). It's leaning more & more towards just being a place I throw pictures :).

The Quad G4 board looks rather wow too.

so is this actually possible to get dual 060 processors working for the classic amiga? and what, two 060 66mhz cpus? would that run as fast as a PPC?

With the AmigaOne using replacable CPU slots, are we gonna start getting dual and quad G4 Amigas?
If only we had some software to run on them :-)

AmigaOS 3.x does not support more than one CPU... And it is very tied to the Amiga Chipset.

One could port AROS though, and use OS-legal Amiga binary programs on it  :-D

Sure is is possible, but what actual use would it bring ?
Hint AOS is not SMP-ready.

Now if could obtain that special ROMs that where on the Zorro2-based 030
proto-boards Hazydave  sold in his gararge sale ....

Those boards where some sort of A300-on-a-card (without sound/gfx),
with their own memory and their own little OS. :-o
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

I'd like to tinker with one of those.

Oh, nice sight Dana, a classic Mac heaven.  I always liked the Pizza Box Mac and the Color Classic.

Well if a CPU card was made it could be done. The problem you run into like on Mac and intel machines is the software needs to be made to take advantage of it. The system wont just apply the 2nd CPU to old legacy software for speed ups.
