Building A1200 tower - need parts...all of them...
« on: December 20, 2003, 02:32:33 AM »
It was not hard to find a new Escom A1200 still being sold a little over 2 years ago when I get it in my head to put together a tower A1200.  I grabbed that and then got a WinnerTower from SoftHut.  I then got a Blizzard A1260 + SCSI (new) and FlickerMasterT (new) from Vesalia.de in Germany.  Quick work.  Had the tower done quickly:

I even wrote an instruction translation

...well I foolishly sold it.  Well...I sold it to get an iBook 700 running OS X and I do enjoy the iBook (typing on it now) but want to rebuild the whole thing now - just like it was.

Can I get any of these parts new anymore?  I know new does not matter so much, but I have this thing about new hardware smell.  Please advise.

Oh - and the main reason I want this machine is to run Amiga AGA demos as kickass as possible, while messing about with the OS a little as well.  So...I am not interested in PPC accelerator solutions - the A1260 + SCSI addon suited me quite ideally.  What a fool I was to sell.  Thanks.

Several places still have new hardware, but it is still expensive.  But, price is not always the issue if that is what it takes to fulfill your goal.  Go for it.

Softhut
Compuquick

to name a few. . . . .

Softhut has towered A1200 NOS starting around $350.

Actually, it is Vesalia where I purchased a Blizzard A1260 + SCSI module and an internal FlickerMasterT.  I got the A1200 itself elsewhere.  Would Vesalia sell NTSC US capable A1200's new?  Any tower they sell - would it be the same as Soft Hut's "Power Tower" which is actually a "Winner Tower" - well, it was when I ordered one from them a few years ago.

I e-mailed Vesalia yesterday asking if they had the two items I mentioned above (no longer listed on their site, these 2-3 years since I ordered least) but got no response as yet.  They only list PPC accelerators - but I care not for such a thing.

Where can I get a new A1260 other than SoftHut?

Hmm i dont know if Vesalia still has Blizzard 1260s but i know they have another brand (wich i think theyre also the manufacturer of) as for having NTSC A1200s i think they do! you could always check and see if "KDH Amiga" has some 060 boards still in stock (search em up on google i dont have the url here). As for the tower i think Vesalia has it as Winner Tower if they still have it in stock (elbox stopped producing that tower).

ElBox stopped making the Winner Tower?  Will I still be able to add a PCI slot board down the road or are they going to be hard to find to fit in the Winner Tower?  If I want to tower my A1200 right now and later may want to add PCI capability - what is the wise tower choice today?

Thanks.

Good Luck . . .

I popped around to several sights I check on and off and none have new Blizzard 1260's except SoftHut.  But if you find a sight let me know, as SoftHut's is a bit expensive.  A lot of places have the Viper in stock.

ebay sometimes has one listed but it would be rare and used. . . .

Yes they stopped making them but perhaps you can still find one? maybe power computing in the UK still has in stock! you can always check elbox.com and see what  towers they have for the A1200 and buy straight from them.

I have 2 Blizzard 1260 accelerators and one SCSI kit for sale.

DCE Blizzard 1260 Tower model 68060 @ 66Mhz (true 60Mhz 060 chip),
made in 2002, like new.
Phase 5 Blizzard 1260 Desktop and Tower model
68060 @ 50Mhz, in box and with manual, like new.
Phase 5 SCSI kit with latest firmware on built-in rom. Box and manual,
like new.

I'm not letting these go cheaply, I should warn you. They will go to
Ebay if I do not find suitable offers elsewhere. :-)
