I'm guilty of doing this too! I posted the following news thinking it was a major story by an company that also plans to make Amiga's.

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=57151

I caught a lot of hell and people even left the site over it. It seemed newsworthy and even involves Disney so who would have guessed?

You cannot win no matter what, that is the sad truth. Any time anything significant news came out a huge fight broke out and people left. This goes back to the mid-90's and ANN.LU and got progressively worse up until 2003. The worst year was 2003 when Genesi made a major push and Amiga.org didn't ban discussion, a good chunk of users left in an organised exodus to a young site called Amigaworld.net. There have been many other events.

The little bit I know and my knowledge of Kommunity history tells me you haven't seen anything yet. If things look bad now, they will be 10x worse in the near future. This will probably worse than 2003. The Kommunity is smaller, but the fanaticism ia even stronger in a smaller minority. Everything will work itself out in the long run as it always has like WUP/PUP, UAE, Amithlon, AmigaOS XL, AROS, MorphOS and too many others. That is not even including the failed projects. Whatever the vision for the site, stick with it and grow thick skin.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Why delete the OpenGL info, Red?  Or were you being sarcastic?  As an OS4 user, and A.org the only Amiga site I visit at all, I was quite pleased to read about it.  It's certainly Amiga related.

That "news" announcement does not contain the word Amiga anywhere.  It does not talk about an Amiga-related product.

How much did CUSA pay you to post that?

If they paid you a fair amount then the item is merely annoying.  But if they paid you nothing then it is stupid and annoying.

I am saying this to you as a friend.

Yes!

My sarcasm has to be framed in the context of all the nonsense lately.

the smaller any social group, the more entrenched people get. We like to assign importance to things that objective lack them in the views of others.

As far as news goes: I guess my view would be: Is it amiga related?

UAE version? Amiga related
Morph OS stuff? Amiga related
OS4 stuff? Amiga related
Classic hardware stuff? Amiga related
AROS stuff? Amiga related
Minimig or Natami stuff? Amiga related
CUSA releases an Amiga product? Some people might hate that, but its still amiga related at that point.

CUSA releasing a C64 case with some form of PC inside? Its retro computing relevant sure.
Is it amiga related? I can't imagine how.

Is amiga.org a general retro computing site? Did we have a news item for the halo 2600 cartridge being released? When someone codes a new spectrum game?

Direction and purpose.

Like it or not, Commdore USA is the parent company of the new Commodore Amiga. You giving Transition crap because you don't like the news doesn't help anything but give Transition heart burn.

Thank you. Good points.
But since the C64x is the first product released from a company that has announced new Amiga computers, its relevant.
Now can we get on with life?

A product they announce or release under the amiga brand.. like I said, this is relevant, much as some wouldn't want it to be.
I don't care for their plans in this regard, but I'll happily concede, its relevant.

The same company releasing something that isn't related to the amiga, I'd say no.
Hyperion made money porting games to linux, but that's not a news story on here, even though they are the OS4 guys.

But then, Im just some random asshole :)

I can get behind that. I wish I could change that lame "Defender of the Faith" message to that.

Isn't there a way in the profile options to change the message? Maybe its based on account type or something.

Probably, considering how much time I spend here I ought to cough up the funds for a Premium account.

Added your phrase to my signature though.

Yes, in fact new Spectrum games are relevant and will be covered completely in the future on this site.
Posts on this account before August 4th, 2012 don\'t belong to me.

Seriously?

If the goal of the site is to be a broader, generic retro computing thing, then that's fine. If that was to be a stated goal, maybe it'd help calm things down around here.
