Amiga 500 floppy problems
« on: April 04, 2011, 12:01:43 PM »
Hello all
First time user here. I had Amigas way back in the 80s when they first came out then went to pc, I just had an offer of a full setup of Amiga 500 that was to good to refuse so I bought it but the problem is the internal floppy does not work. Anybody able to help me with my thoughts on using a pc floppy drive in the Amiga. I know it is possible but found so many different ideas online so thought i would try here. Also is it possible to download ADF files and write them to a disk in the pc and then use them in the Amiga when I get the floppy issue sorted.
Thank you
Rob

If you want to be able to write adf files to a floppy on a PC you need "catweasel" I think. Otherwise you can modify certain pc-drives to be Amiga compatible. I would start searching for retired PCs and rip the floppys out and then do a google search on the part number to see if it's a suitable candidate for modding.

Here is some other good information on the topic: http://www.amigaforever.com/kb/13-118

There are some easy to modify PC floppy drives that will work in an A500.  You will need some spacers to raise the floppy a bit and a modified plastic button.
Panasonic JU257A605P or 606P are easy units to modify and were very popular PC floppy drives during the 90's
