I dunno, this place goes through phases of upset- R vs B was the last big one I remember. Old guard leave, new blood come in. I'm just here to talk about Amiga, try to let it pass over my head. But I certainly enjoy talking and listening to some new arrivals (well, newish) and am glad I stayed.

I know its just me, but I have no clue what you're talking about.

Probably my fault. I tend to be overly brief. Put another way...

Amiga was called to my attention in the old days by *gasp* Atari users. I read about Jay and it was the ideas (and the man who carried them) that I related to and eventually ushered me into the world of Amiga.
That's not to say I was ignorant of the descriptions of the hardware or the operating system. Sure, that played a part. I'm just saying there is more to my platform migration than just those tangible items.
So, for me, I find it too limiting to judge the new "players" just by what hardware they talk about at present.

Much clearer.
Oddly enough, my own judgements come from a polar opposite.
I like the technical specs and hardware fact.
It probably explains why I hung onto the 68K for as long as I did and Why I'm using a PPC now.

well that makes sense to me.
My introduction to all things Amiga was an animator - once I placed my hands on her Amiga 1000 (then 500, then 2500), I saw the ARTISTIC possibilities of this machine. While knowing briefly the chip set of the Amiga may be interesting to me, what RIVETED me was that for the first time in MY life I saw a device that could be used as an artists tool. Like my airbrush or paintbrush. I could DO something with the Amiga that could not at the time be done with anything else.

this blew my mind.

frankly, I think people now forget that feeling. They forget the doors Amiga opened. We should remember.

On the other hand, the CUSA stuff is a total disconnect. Other than branding, there's absolutely nothing (at least nothing that has been publicly shown) to connect it to the Amiga or earlier Commodore machines.

Which is why reasonable people should cut C=USA a break and wait to hear them out on what their Commodore Amiga series is all about before flaming them.  I know everyone wants to know this very minute what is going on, but from my understanding not all decisions have been made yet so what they want is impossible at this point in time.

@Thread

Re:Red vs. Blue
I've got a PowerMac G4 running MOS 2.7 shareware and a MicroA1-c loaned out to another developer.  To me they are all just additional platforms to have to support with software.

I hope that the AROS team (myself included) can come up with some way to make all AROS software compile to the other platforms without much effort.  Also, cheers to Chris Handley for coming out with PortablE.  I hope that'll work on all supported platforms soon also.

You must eat a lot of the stuff then. Either that, or it's aromatic components have a tendency to concentrate into certain, erm, fluids in the same way asparagus allegedly does...

I think most people that are critical see this as yet another trip down the garden path. Except it looks even less appealing than any previous time, with no tangible aspect to connect what CUSA appears to be developing with the kit they are named after (at least as far as the Amiga is concerned). Furthermore, CUSA didn't itself any favours with the existing crowd at the start and alienated virtually everybody at some stage or other.

I shouldn't believe your own hyperbole too much - the reactions I'm getting here seem a lot more negative than "wanting to know what is going on", more specifically, a wish they'd just go away and haunt some other forum instead. It's been that way a for some time. If you take your glasses off and give them a rub, you might just see it too.

Amiga [A1000] was the last revolutionary computer I ever bought, and therefore the best Now in the time of lethargic evolution my PCs are just tools, I love them no more than my chopsticks.....only the food is important ;)

I think this is a good point for why we are all here.

I like my linux box, but its ultimately just a tool to do stuff.
