A few realizations
« on: April 03, 2011, 04:56:42 PM »
So I've come to realize that there's things I really can't be assed to care about anymore:

1: Red vs Blue. OS4 vs Morph OS. I am unlikely to ever run either, and I'll skip threads where this is likely to be a discussion point.

2: CUSA threads. Period.

3: People who seem to be on the site purely to talk about how the amiga sucked compared to PC's or this or that console, or how every game sucked etc etc.

You know the type.. any discussion will inevitably become about how feature XXX was actually worse than feature YYY on generic PC ZZZ and this unfailing truth has to be driven into the skulls of the audience mercilessly as if anyone cared 25 years later.

4: Drama queens and whiners. I apologize that an evil man is forcing you to read every thread, and respond to every thread on the forum.

We're in the midst of the most melodramatic phase I can recall in my years as a member here. Hopefully it blows over soon.

I will add that I joined the site exclusively for its pancake coverage.

EDIT: Believe it or not, I dont even mind having the CUSA stuff here. I just dont care to read the arguments anymore.

I think it's just the old Amiga vs ST (Atari vs CBM, 2600 vs Coleco) thing..
People seem to need something to argue about...

I don't even mind a decent argument sometimes (and sometimes I take the trollfood and get suckered in..)..
It frequently reminds me of the Monty Python argument sketch.. ;-)

What bothers me sometimes is the way that it seems almost every thread becomes one of those threads...
It's hard to avoid them on here...

But, on to the serious matters...

What, exactly about "socks" were you referring?  Hmmm....
Oh well, off to my pancakes..

(p.s.  I like brocolli too!!!!!)
Amiga 1200 w/ ACA1230/28 - 4G CF, MAS Player, ext floppy, and 1084S.
Amiga 500 w/ 2M CHIP and 8M FAST RAM, DCTV, AEHD floppy, and 1084S.
Amiga 1000 w/ 4M FAST RAM, DUAL CF hard drives, external floppy.

It kind of reminds me of "that guy".

You know who it is. The guy you invite to a party and he wants to spend all night talking about his pet crusade. Every conversation becomes about that one issue.
Everything is seen in relation to that. Its how he defines himself and others.

Even if you fundamentally agree with him, it still becomes annoying. "No, I don't think choosing pizza toppings has anything to do with freeing tibet"

There's a lot of "that guy" at this party.

Yeah, it does seem like that.

I was thinking this past week that you could turn Amiga.org into a broadway show...Amiga.org THE MUSICAL!

Les Miserables has nothing on the drama here....  :-)

Haha, nice one! I think it would be tough though, because there could only be 3 songs - the rest of the show would be endless reprises! :)

So I've come to realize that there's things I really can't be assed to care about anymore:

I assume you meant "asked" not assed (but then...)

I not 100% sure which is red and which is blue (I guess I'm part of the blue team). If you're not interested you don't have to involved yourself, but plenty of us are interested and there are others who each day decide to try either OS. AND it not that adversarial (although MorphOS is better).

Quote
2: CUSA threads. Period.
I'm interested in this and have been more so since I took the time to call Barry Altman and hear him out. Like it or not Commodore is back and in production. Whether you're interested in their products or not, the interest they generate can only serve to increase interest in our own communities.

Quote
3: People who seem to be on the site purely to talk about how the amiga sucked compared to PC's or this or that console, or how every game sucked etc etc.
Why ARE those people here?

Quote
You know the type.. any discussion will inevitably become about how feature XXX was actually worse than feature YYY on generic PC ZZZ and this unfailing truth has to be driven into the skulls of the audience mercilessly as if anyone cared 25 years later.
Could be worse, could be the Natami forum. At least we're not constantly inudated by people insisting that all we need is a faster blitter.

4: Drama queens and whiners. I apologize that an evil man is forcing you to read every thread, and respond to every thread on the forum.
Leads right up to my last point, content on this site is post by a somewhat democratic approach. Find a thread interesting or provocative, post a response and it remains current. No interest and it fades into obscurity.

So, whether you're interest in something (that I'm not) or vice-versa is not important.
"Not making any hard and fast rules means that the moderators can use their good judgment in moderation, and we think the results speak for themselves." - Amiga.org, terms of service

"You, got to stem the evil tide, and keep it on the the inside" - Rogers Waters

"God was never on your side" - Lemmy

Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective"

Runie, you do realize that you in fact, just started the kind of thread you abhor. Thanks for the spam!

Just 'ignore' the spuds, ninnies and twits and they'll go away before too long. Way too much wasted mental bandwidth as it is on drivel and nonsense. Stop feeding the trolls!

-edited-

"mental bandwidth" is what I mean to say. I can hear some incredibly droll techno-geek reaming me now for the mispelling and the fact that my usage of the term "bandwidth" relative to an internet forum isn't really slowing anything down. That it's some archaic idealogy we used to talk about in the 90's.

Im not looking to censor anything. Like i posted above, I dont mind the CUSA stuff being there. I just get tired of the perpetual bickering in those threads.

I've often wanted to use that term but I didn't think folk would know what it meant on your side of the pond, you'er the first one I've heard use it, glad to know you've got ninnies over there too... :)
