« on: March 28, 2011, 11:03:44 PM »
Hi

Old hd gets hot and start to give read/write errors after about 5 minits of use.

I've working HP D4963A hd and I thought to replace old hd with it.

It is 4260mb hd, will that make a problem? It also has a jumpers, should I do smething with them? Old didn't had any jumpers or any of them hasn't been use.

New HD:

Currently 8 and 9 are in use

1. Spare ID bit3
2. ID bit 2
3. ID bit 1
4. ID bit 0
5. Disable / Auto spin
6. SCSI term ON
7. Disable unit ATTN
8. TI Sync NEGO ** currently in use
9. Auto start delay ** currently in use
10. Delay start
11. Disable parity
12. led out

Should I remove connections from 8 and 9? What else?

Have you Googled the hard drive's model number? The manufacturer usually gives a good explanation of the jumpers.

My WAG (wild assed guess) would be that you need 6 (last device on the internal chain) and maybe 7.  I would be tempted to try it without 8 & maybe 9.  Maybe the docs will better define the difference between 9 & 10 (They seem to be the same thing).  There should be no harm in trying these combinations.

If the drive came this way from a working Mac, that's a good sign that 8 & 9 are needed.

Sorry, I have not stumbled into any Hp drives yet.

EDIT:  I lost my HD8+, but you may have an issue with the Rom in the HD8+ and the maximum size HD you use with it. I don't remember this well at all.  I think the last rev Rom will work with a 4.2 Gig drive.
