I will expand my amiga
« on: March 26, 2011, 10:08:46 PM »
Dear Friends:

Even though my a1200 had many problems, it is still run good.
I just decided, instead of buying a new amiga (like a 4k or 3k)
I will save my money to expand my amiga 1200.
For example, I would like to get a:
-new accelerator
-external cd drive
and anything good I can find.
If I save my money, I can afford this expansion.
I will expand my amiga 1200 !!!

Good on you... :)

I don't think you will regret expanding your A1200, it's the best machine Commodore ever made and when fully expanded nothing can touch it... :)

That is pure crap. i like the a1200 a lot but the flagship and most expandable high end amiga is the 4000. Period.

...except that whole 128MB RAM on the CPU slot limitation whereas the 1200 can do 256MB!

@ franko
thank you for your encouragement.

@magnetic
yes, I do believe the a4000 is the best, most expandable amiga
but my a1200 is more than enough for my all needs, and if I
expand it, this would be superb for what I use it.
My amiga 1200 is good enough for my needs !!!

Depends on the expectations and targets.
One aspect in particular between Zorro-equipped Amiga and all-in-one solution (like A1200 not towered, of course):
do you plan/want a graphic card?
If so, it's better to go with an A3000/4000.

There's the BVison, but needs the proper accelerator and both are quite (very?) expensive.

Here's a wee list of stuff to add to a desktop A1200 to make it a machine that will cover all your Amiga needs... :)

Blizzard060 60Mhz 128MB RAM...
or
Blizzard030 50Mhz 128MB RAM...

FastATA MKIII Buffered Interface...

DVD/CD Re-Writer...

SubWay USB Device...

Cocolino Wireless Mouse Adapter...

Wouldn't bother with a BlizzardPPC board though, cost a small fortune if you can find one and the BVision GFX card is rarer than a sober Scotsman on a Saturday night... (still haven't found one myself)... :)

No need to worry what that low life loser Franko has to say. Never know what he says since I ignored him, but any advice anywhere else is already better than what he could ever give.

On topic:

An accelerator at least 68030/50mhz and 32mb ram does sufficient. I never took the Amiga back online ever since 2001.  The only thing I would do on it from time to time is games and OctaMED v4 or soundstudio.  Either way, getting anything for your Amiga is great.

Off hand I don't have a clue as to the whole USB cd speeds. Only thing I used at the time was some generic cdrom drive connected to my external Dataflyer case. It worked to an extent.

But someone im sure will know more about it. This is why I don't go posting on everything like someone does *cough* franky *cough*.

Hope you can get the answers you want.

Hi,

@magnetic,

Yes it is a high end Amiga with a high end price to expand it. Like when I bought my Blizzard PPC card for my Amiga's I checked the prices for an Amiga 4000 and found that $!999 for a cheap ppc was just out of my league, so I bought a PPC for my Amiga 1200. Seems like everything I price for the A4000 is at least $500 more.

smerf
I have no idea what your talking about, so here is a doggy with a small pancake on his head.

MorphOS is a MAC done a little better
