Wanted: Amiga 3000

As the title says: I'm thinking of trading in my Amiga 2000 for a 3000 (save some space, move to a fully 32-bit system, yay.) I'm not really looking for a huge power-user setup:

• I do want a few MB of fast RAM - doesn't matter too much whether it's on a card or on the motherboard (is one significantly faster?)
• No hard drive needed, as I'm planning to just drop my existing one right in. It'd be nice if it had two floppies installed.
• I do want it to be the 25MHz model instead of the 16MHz model, and have a Kickstart 3.1 ROM. Also, NTSC.
• Will my 2000 keyboard work with a 3000? If not, I'll definitely need a 3000 keyboard.
• I'm not looking for a monitor - I have a VGA display I can use and I don't want to pay for shipping on a monitor.
  

Being as I'm looking to replace one with the other, I'm open to trading for part or all of my 2000 setup, comprised of the following:

• 2500-badged Amiga 2000 (I think it's a Rev. 6 board,) one floppy drive.
• Commodore 1084S RGB/composite monitor with stereo sound.
• Commodore A2630 accelerator (68030 @ 25MHz,) with 2MB of 32-bit fast RAM.
  
• Intact but non-functional DKB 2632 add-on for the accelerator - I think I may have static-shocked it. If you can get it functional, it's loaded with 96MB of 32-bit RAM and can take another 16MB.
  
• GVP Impact A2000-HC+8 Series II SCSI controller + RAM expansion. Currently loaded with 6MB of RAM; I think I have spare SIMMs to get it up to 8MB.
  
• ASDG Lan Rover Ethernet card. I think I might like to keep this one, but I'm not averse to parting with it, either.
  
• Commodore A2088XT PC bridgeboard. Kind of a novelty item, but if you've ever desperately desired to have a PC-XT in your Amiga, there you go.
  

If none of that piques your interest, I'm also willing to pay cash and sell off the 2000 separately (and if you're just interested in the 2000 stuff and don't have a 3000, drop me a line and I'll get back to you when I'm ready to do the selling.) I'd be willing to pay around $100-150 US + S/H for the kind of basic 3000 setup I'm looking for. Anybody have one to spare?

Yeah, I had email correspondence with him earlier, so I dropped a line asking...guess we'll see.

(And yeah, northern MN is just beautiful country I prefer the Lake Superior area to the Iron Range, but it's all good.)

Don't get any A3000 until you know if the battery has leaked.  I would ask the seller to check the battery and get back with you.

Thanks for the tip, but I'd actually rather have the desktop model - fits in better with my current arrangement.

Of course, an A3000T doesn't really qualify as 'saving space'.

I have a desktop A3000 I'm willing to part with. I live in California so someone in the US would be good to keep shipping prices reasonable. It has a GVP 28Mhz 68040 processor accellator with 8M of RAM, plus more ram on the motherboard (can't remember how much off hand and I'm at work), along with the 2M chip RAM. Also includes a high density floppy. The battery started to go bad but I caught it before it did much damaged to the motherboard and wired in a new one. You can see pictures of it here:

My A3000 is gathering dust on a shelf after I went back to my A2000 which must be the only damn non-Tower miggy you can expand properly in its original case.  Unless you have a burning desire for Zorro 3 slots, stick with the A2000.

Eh, expansion's not really that important to me - a decent accelerator, RAM, and a hard drive are all I really need.

Darren has a point.  You can mount a CDrom drive right in the case.  Given your modest ambition for a 3000, adding an Indivision to your 2000 would get you in the same ball park.  Adding a Picasso II to a 2000 would open another world.  Another DKB2632 should not be that hard to find, you already have the ram chips.  

A 3000 might have a modest speed boost with a full 32-bit bus.  It can take a lot of ram without further acceleration.  It can use the 2000 keyboard

I know it has been written a thousand times already, but I must agree.  The amount of improvement between an A2000 and the A3000 was very disappointing for almost all Amiga buyers when the A3000 was first released.  I like the A3000, but it was clear that Commodore was failing miserably in developing the Amiga (as well as marketing it) when the A3000 was released and there had been almost no improvement in the Amiga custom chipset over the A500/A2000 and then an even bigger disappointment was in store for us when the A4000 was released with no flicker fixer, no SCSI controller, slow IDE and RAM access speed and AGA was behind VGA cards that were available at the same time.

Unless you need Zorro3 for something, or if you don't have a decent video card and accelerator for your A2000, don't switch.  Just re-read and saw your A2000 specs and what you want from an A3000.  Don't switch!

I'll throw my 2 cents at you as well...

Accelerated 2k to stock 3k, will not light your pants on fire by any means.
If you add video and acceleration to a 3k, buy a new set of pants.  The difference will burn them right off.  Z3 and the faster bus give huge performance gains over a similar built 2k.  I ran similar systems (3k with 40mhz 040 and retina z3 and 2k 040@40mhz and retina z2) side by side and the 2k was way slower.

The other item is a taste thing, many believe the 3k was the best built Amiga.  Certainly a 3000+ would have filled everyone's dreams of what the 3k should have been.   But if you think the 3k would be fun and can pick it up on the cheap.  It might be fun to play with, go for it.

The battery issue on a 3k isn't always an issue.  I replaced batteries on 3 different 3k's all with major leakage.  I cleaned the acid and mounted a new battery and they worked great.  So if they boot with a leaking battery I wouldn't run away from it.
