Desktop or Tower?

Easiest way if you have a Subway would be USB Ethernet adapter.  There is probably a list of a supported ones somewhere if you have a search.

Another option is 16bit PCMCIA Network Card, Wifi ones also work.  You need one based on the Prism2 or CNET Chipset.

I asked about Tower/Desktop because if you have Towerd your A1200 you might also need an PCMCIA Angle Adapter to use the PCMCIA port.

You will also need a TCP/IP Stack, OS3.9 has Genesis however I use MiamiDX as I find it easier to setup :)

There are lots of supported PCMCIA cards but the one I use is the NetGear MA401.

If you want to surf the Internet the two main browsers are IBrowse and AWeb, both functional but not great by todays standards for modern Websites.

Steve.

The stack is the piece of software which handles all network connections in a central manner. It's through the TCP/IP stack that all other network applications (including www, instant messaging and email) communicate with the outside world. Most operating systems nowadays have it built in and permanently running in the background, but it's a bolt-on addition to OS3.9 and doesn't run automatically. It's called Genesis, and you can find it in the Internet drawer in your Workbench partition. There's also a preferences program which you use to configure the network. Once you're in there it should be relatively straightforward if you're familiar with networking on other systems...

It's your choice whether you prefer to use Genesis or Miami, maybe try them both and decide which you like or what works best for you.

Download these files and install them on your Amiga:

http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/MiamiDx10cmain
http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/MiamiDx10c-MUI

You can find out about how to get it registered here, since the software was abandoned long ago:

Miami Deluxe is a TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol) stack and is the essential software a computer needs to go on the internet. Most modern operating systems have TCP/IP stack built in, and indeed AmigaOS 3.9 has Genesis, but many people prefer to use Miami Deluxe as it has some features Genesis (and AmiTCP which it's based on) doesn't have, as well as a very comprehensive and user-friendly GUI and wizard for setting up.
